Senator Byrd
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 09:54 PM by blonndee
Another thread was started about how dispirited Sen. Byrd seemed today and so I started thinking that it would be great for us to email our appreciation to those senators who spoke up today. Although for some of them it's a little late, I think we should encourage them to keep speaking up. Every one of us Dems can use some encouragement, and if they know we're behind them it certainly won't HURT. Let's get behind them, even if they are late bloomers. I started with Boxer, Byrd, and Drayton.

Here's the link to Byrd's site:

2. I sent this
to Clinton, Stabenow, Lieberman, and Feinstein for not quesitoning Rice:
AGREEMENT NOT TO RUN FOR RE-ELECTION - TO BE SENT TO THOSE CONSIDERING NOT BLOCKING THE NOMINATION OF CONDOLEEZZA RICE.

I _______________(name of Senator) from the State of ______________(name of state) agree not to run for re-election. Through my failure to oppose the nomination of Condoleezza Rice, I have demonstrated that I lack the intelligence and integrity needed to represent the people of my state. When Condoleezza Rice saw a memo titled "Bin Laden Determined To Attack Inside the United States" prior to 9/11, it did not occur to her that Bin Laden was determined to attack inside the United States. Now, though I may have also lacked the intelligence to make that connection, there are a great many other Americans who do have the intelligence to make that connection who are eligible to become Secretary of State. Ms. Rice helped lead the charge to war with two countries who were less responsible for 9/11 than the incompetence of Ms. Rice. She worked to make the whole world hate us. As a result of the actions of Ms. Rice, Americans are in more danger now than ever before. If Ms. Rice continues this pattern as Secretary of State, the future of all Americans will be in grave danger. I lack the concern for the American people and the integrity to block this nomination and demand we do better. In failing to block this incompetent war-monger of African American origin, I am also demonstrating my racist belief that the best African-American for the job is a stupid war-mongerer and that we can find no better African-American for the job. In conclusion, I will never again run for public office because I am a stupid, gullible Senator who has no concern for the welfare of my constituents or the American people.

6. he was incredible
I saw his hands shake when he took a drink of water. I tried to imagine myself at his age standing up for the truth so relentlessly. Thanks for this reminder to thank him. Here is my letter submitted through his website:

Just want to take a moment to express my appreciation of your intelligent and informed argument against the appointment of Dr. Rice as S.O.S. You brought up all of the issues that should concern all of us about her failures leading up to 9/11 and then afterwards when she misunderstood her role as Secretary of Defense and became a marketing director for GWB's assault on the Constitution of the United States in order to install himself as the War President fighting the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time. Realistically I don't have much hope that the integrity of just one senator such as yourself can avert the disaster that has been perpetrated on this country and -- therefore -- the world. Just the same, I send my prayers to you and my support for the stand that you have taken and for all of those who stand with you. I heard your speech on C-Span and it reminded me of why I believe in this country. Thank you.

7. You know
they really do appreciate it. I called Byrds office once when he stood up against some other outrage, face it there have been too many to remember what one it was, and his staff said they appreciated it so much. He had been getting so many bad calls that they were very dispirited. It always helps them to know that we appreciate them doing what we hired them to do.
