Remember: no consumer spending tomorrow, a/k/a "Not One Damn Dime Day," a/k/a Pretend Inauguration Day.

I'd suggest, however, that you make exceptions for the local businesses around you. There's no point in putting any strain on mom-and-pop outfits--and the tactic could even backfire if thus misapplied.

As for your chains and mega-stores, however, spend not one damn dime! This is a long shot, but well worth the effort, if our day-long avoidance of Starbucks, Wal-Mart, Borders, MGM et al. might have some noticeable impact on the watchdogs of the so-called mainstream press. Pack a lunch, or eat at Joe's (if it is really Joe's). Read the paper at the library. Walk to work. Try not to use the phone (except for organizing purposes). Avoid TV (always a wise idea).

I have four cats and I absolutely cannot go without buying them cat food-- so I did it tonight. By accident-- I had forgotten (briefly) what tomorrow is.

I have my bright orange t-shirt at the ready-- people at work are going to get an eyeful tomorrow!!!

6. I made my milk run into Brevard today (no milk .. but plenty of Shiraz).

I am not even making long-distance calls tomorrow. The Subaru will stay in the garage, and the TV will be off until The Daily Show comes on. I will be listening to Air America Radio all day long and into the evening (depending on the Shiraz-effect).

I dreaded going out today, because it's so damn cold, but I made it to the market, and got enough stuff for the next few days. Is anybody fsting, or is that insane?
