Dean's speech . . . an Ed Muskie Moment? . . .
I just watched both CBS and NBC News to see how they'd cover last night's Iowa caucuses . . . unfortunately for Dean, they both gave prominent play to his speech and how everyone in Washington and elsewhere was talking about it, and not in a positive way . . .

it reminded me of a campaign event that took place years ago -- might have been 1968 -- when candidate Ed Muskie briefly broke down in tears after someone attacked his wife . . . unfair though it may have been, that one brief moment of appearing "non-presidential" effectively ended Muskie's campaign for the nomination . . .

with the wide and uniformly negative coverage that Dean's speech is getting today, I wouldn't be surprised if this proves to be an "Ed Muskie moment" that punctures his balloon . . . in and of itself, the speech shouldn't have been a big deal, imo . . . but it's perceptions that matter, and given that most folks still get their information from the evening news, how the speech was reported by Rather and Brokaw could really hurt Dean . . . jmho, of course . . .

10. They have played it over 20 times today on CNN and MSNBC...
Just watch those two channels and you'll see a snippet.... My guess is that it will be all over the internet in a few days....

3. America is Empire On The Decline. Is it too late for a Dean?
I have supported Dean because he was the only one (electable on a national level) to come out against the war. The other candidates have been able to effectively nullify's Deans position on the and use it for themselves. It'll be interesting to see if Dean has a second act.

4. This Speech...
Is just nonsense ginned up by the coprporate media.

Though, perhaps, I wish he hadn't yelped like that at the end.

7. Download
The audio from Drudge. It sounds... wierd. Very wierd.

But, alas, a career is not made or destroyed by such a trivial thing. The ones on Dean for the speech hated him in the first place.

8. I don't think the corporate media is to blame for this one
I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I was watching Dean last night. And yea, the yelp did seal it I think. If it bleeds, it leads.

9. Worse
It was a Romney moment. In 1968, Republican front-runner Gov. George Romney (father of Mitt Romney) made a joke about being brainwashed. His presidential campaign collapsed as a result. I fear that Dean's little tirade might be just as disastrous.
