Thirteen people have turned down Homeland Security job??
I don't have a link but Katty Kay on the BBC News from Washington just said that 13 people have already turned Bush down on this one. Does anyone have any knowledge of who the 13 are? I wish the US media would report this.

1. The only thing that Bush hates more than hearing bad news himself is
having the media spread it to the American public!!!!!

2. I'd turn it down
It's a SHIT job. It's one of those jobs where everyone else gets the credit if nothing happens, but when the poop hits the fan, it gets all over you. They ought to call the Secretary for Homeland Security what he (or one day, she) really is--the Designated Sacrificial Lamb.

3. wow!
That's really interesting -- and would explain why it seems to have taken a long time for him to find a replacement for Kerik. I must say, I am also surprised that Chertoff left his cushy lifetime appointment as a federal judge to do this. I expected him to stay there for a while, to raise his cred & do some damage to the Constitution, before moving out in the private sector to make the ENORMOUS bucks. This move -- back to government -- seems odd. Maybe having trouble filling the position explains it. Chertoff was someone they could pressure to take it on, to save their asses.

5. Why should he sit and wait for a chance to do damage to the constitution
when he can get a job where that is pretty much the entire duty of the position!

8. This guy was in the Justice Department overseeing the FBI
when 9/11 happened, so maybe Dubyah has something on him. My feeling though is he was bought with a promise he'd be joining the Supremes before Bush leaves office.

6. They are setting somebody up to get roasted!
The BushCo. Enterprises most potent and well used tool has been fear and it doesn't take a rocket scientist of a politician to see and understand that. As bizarre and far fetched as it may sound, it could be that some of the people offered the job believe that BushCo. might just very well let an attack happen or even stage one themselves to finally rid themselves of the that pesky thing known as the Constitution. One need not be a rocket scientist or even an average politician to suspect that the job offer might be very much like the spider romancing the fly.

7. What freaks me out is what Bush must have promised to get
a federal judge for life to go on a Kamikaze mission as minister of disinformation.

9. Well, Kenneth Starr got to be president of Pepperdine
It's not so much that these soulless imps can be bought, it's just the appallingly low price for which some of them vend themselves.

11. I decided, after I posted this, that the price was a promise that
he'd being joining the Supremes later. This is the ultimate lawyer bribe, other than cash of course. I was a lawyer for 25 years then quit because it got too gross, so don't flame me for being down on lawyers.
