Did Dean sound like a WWF wrestler at the Caucases
Just curious, I like Dean but what was up with that scream?

1. Yes, he did
And, for the record, I made that exact comparison to several people after I watched it.

But, for the true believer, anyone who expresses this sentiment is clearly just mindlessly parroting what the media tells them.

2. LOL...
Actually, it cracked me up because it reminded me of the vocal tic that one steroid addled chunk (name doesn't come to mind) after every sentence he says...kinda goes "yeeauhhh." SOmething between a word and a grunt of pain.

Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 03:42 PM by GalleryGod
Whom I thought wrote Dean's speech and was his media adviser last night.

Got lotsa votes in the Deep South with that tidy little performance late last night.
Howling at the Moon,maybe?

13. Nice
That's what this race boils down to, cartoon characters?

If it's a race between a WWF wrestler, Herman Munster and ET I'll stick with the wrestler.

3. It was really just his voice..
He should of taken that into consideration a tad...a lot. :)

But, he looked damn happy. If it wasn't for the polls in the last 1.5 months, 3rd would of been amazing. He may of genuinly felt this, but Im not sure. I did think it was good for him to reassert his populist appeal and positivity.

Overdone, yes. But I doubt such was more damaging than helpful. Unforts his voice did not make it qiute so pleasent.

19. It was more than his voice -
it was his facial expressions, his body language, inappropriate affect, and combative message and tone.

Example: "I have called Senator Kerry and Senator Edwards and congratulated them and told them we would see them around the corner on the other side of the block starting tomorrow morning." Like the guy who got his butt kicked in a bar fight taunting his adversaries with "Oh, yeah? As soon as I sober up, we can take this outside and THEN you'll be in trouble!"

Compare this with John Edwards acknowledgment of HIS opponents:

"And I want to say a word about some of the other folks who were involved in this race here in the state of Iowa. First, my congratulations to Senator John Kerry for running a very good campaign in the state of Iowa.

"To Governor Dean and Congressman Kucinich, both of whom are very good people, good leaders, who also ran a good campaign."

5. go watch it
linked here http://www.c-span.org/VideoArchives.asp?CatCodePairs=,&Page=2

It was a Democrat celebrating his 3rd place victory in IA, and the media has to mock Democrats celebrating, like with the Wellstone memorial. It was a great speech - upbeat, hopeful, excellent.

7. I didn't find it excellent by any means
I found it very offputting, especially contrasted with Gephardt, Edwards, and Kerry. Of the four, I think Edwards did the best post-caucus speech.

While some of the criticism over Dean's speech is ideologically driven, some (like mine), is simply driven by the opinion that it was a bad speech.

18. Savage, without a doubt
First I thought of Rowdy Roddy Piper but Savage is much closer to what it actually sounded like ... except when he turned into Eddie Guererro right at the end ...

But Piper used to get worked up like that. I vote Piper. Or Paul Heyman.

from the other room. I actually asked my wife why she was watching professional wrestling! She assured me it was just Dean's speech.

12. hey real original....
just like the other 30 threads on this topic since yesterday....

Did you see it in its entirety or are you going by what is being shown? Does it include Harkins cheering and yelling before introducing Dean or do we just believe that Dean is out of control?

Nice spin....

16. He sounded hoarse to me...
That would definitely explain his voice being off and that kinda odd scream at the end.

The rest of the speech was just his typical enthusiasm. I'd love to hear this same speech done with his voice in its usual shape and see how many people had a problem with it.
