Robert Novak 'Failing as a Journalist' in Plame Affair?

By E&P Staff

Published: December 31, 2004 11:00 am ET

NEW YORK -- In its first major look at Robert Novak and his role in the Valerie Plame/CIA probe, The New York Times today reports that a growing number of media ethics specialists, lawyers and journalists are criticizing the columnist “as failing as a journalist” by not outlining for the public his dealings with the investigation.

"He has become part of the story," Lucy Dalglish, the executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, told the Times. "He should disclose what's going on. Everyone else has."

Geneva Overholser, a professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, added: "He's a journalist. If he believes in reporting and truth-telling, it's time he did some of that."

2. I believe that Bush will have it handled...
just as he is handling Sibel Edmonds' and other whistleblowers' stories as well. Buy off the media and everyone else to have it ignored. The sheep have already forgotten this.

5. To call Novak a journalist is a ajoke. He's a right-wing entertainer.

6. Novak is Armstrong Williams
He doesn't serve his employer or the public, but literally takes his marching orders from the White House.

For the last couple of years, I've noticed that some conservative commentators draw their own conclusions and therefore wander off the reservation when the evidence seems to warrant, but others seem willing to lie about the obvious, acting more like a defense attorney than a journalist.

Williams is probably the tip of another iceberg that will crash into a lot of Titanics while the rest of the press writes about who the penguins are dating.

12. I bet his payola is way bigger

then the chump change for Armstrong.

When some creative person figures out his financial situation they will see who was BOUGHT and PAYED FOR by ROVECO.

11. You are correct
that according to the US Constitution, a serious legal violation by the executive(& administration) is supposed to be investigated by the House, then referred to the Senate. There is also an option for a joint House-Senate investigation.

You are incorrect about "nothing happening." The case is being handled by a federal investigator. At present, a federal panel is reviewing an appeal hearing from December, involving two reporters with direct knowledge of exactly who in the White House exposed Plame.

Starting later this week, more current information on the Plame case will be found on the H2O blog.
