The Beauty of the Beast

We are a nation of individuals. Our Bill of Rights addresses us, not as a nation, but as individuals in relation to the state that is taxed with the responsibility of guaranteeing those rights. And we are individually taxed with the responsibility of supporting the state.

That simple conundrum goes far in defining one basic nature of our United States.

I, the individual, have a written guarantee of protection and redress in that least individual of institutions, the state.

Those Constitutional Congress guys did a good job; I love the living legacy they’ve left us.

We owe them and ourselves the same effort.
