I will never forget how he stridently took the Senate floor and eloquently expressed all of the concerns about the impending war in Iraq that were haunting me. I felt so alone and unrepresented as I watched Senators from traditionally liberal states ramble on CSPAN. Then, to my shock, the ancient conservative Senator from West Virginia with a disturbing personal history rose up, and cut through all of the lies and fire-and-brimstone rhetoric. He validated my perceptions, at a time when I felt like either I or the entire world had gone mad.

For me, that man is proof that heroism may be found in the most seemingly unlikely of individuals. I will be eternally grateful.

6. Byrd stood down in 01
Hope he does ther right thing tomorrow!

Will any white liberal senators stand up
for disenfranchised minorities.

They should stop being so senatorial,
and start being Ultra Democrats!

Start UDO's in all 50 states and DC!

He hates bush.

Thinks democracy is being stolen.

Is very old School

And if he goes to the well of the Senate tomorrow to speak .... look out!

7. I'm counting on Byrd. He's so great.
Lately, he's been standing up to the right-wingers on virtually everything.

9. That was his filibuster ramble, wasn't it
A Right wingnut tried to say that Byrd must have considered old Billy and his bodily functions more important than democracy.

But hell, it's better than pushing the fillibuster button and walking away. I admit I'd rather they had to actually fillibuster ala Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. It would mean more.
