Who is Bob Woodward, really ?
(Lt. j.g. naval intelligence) Robert U. Woodward was being used by the CIA-employed Robert F. Bennett, now Senator of Utah, in a strange capacity.

http://www.metroactive.com/papers/sonoma/07.03.97/scoop-9727.html

The CIA's ties to Watergate are many and deep. Were they trying to prevent Nixon's unification of intelligence back then under the Huston Plan, which was almost martial law ? Were they --the military-- trying to rid themselves of a President who'd made a submarine deal with the Soviets that gave the navy a disadvantage ? Haldeman speculated as much in his book.

An interesting bio is below:

A question for today would be 'is the CIA or intelligence in general military or other, involved in altering the 2004 election ?"

2. ...so, why can't they engineer another coup d'etat like 1973 ?
We really have a situation far far worse than Nixon and the military seems to LIKE it. These bozos better wake up soon or 'intelligence' will look more like Col. Flagg's variety (remember the M.A.S.H. character ?).

3. because brother...
they are so gone, gone, gone.
they may have had a chance, but they blew it.
remember that their were dems who voted for Porter Goss for CIA chair, even after what he did as part of Clinton's imperachment process. When he was appointed, they lost. we lost.

have you ever read David Halberstams Best and the Brightest"
he has an interesting theory. He thinks we got into Viet Nam in the late fifties and early sixties because anyone with any real knowledge of china and ho chi minh, the lifers at State and Defense who had lived in those countries, had been purged during Mccarthy-ism because of their "communist ties and leanings."

so when the time came to figure out wtf was happening in viet nam, we had no intelligence, no analysis, and no cultural understanding.

why, thats exactly what we have now!

and, btw, if Nixon was ousted in a cia/intelligence coup, which i'm not sure i believe, then there was one guy at the center of it. Bush. who was RNC chair and had been working as a CIA operative since the early sixties.

4. Maybe Poppy was Deep Throat?
Woodward sure seemed to want to protect W's image when interviewed about his book.

7. Read the Metroactive post in my link that started this. Senator Bennett
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 03:07 PM by EVDebs
is 'closest' to DeepThroat, since he ran Mullen & Co cover company for the CIA/Cubans/etc. BTW, Nixon himself, in Michael Drosnin's book "Citizen Hughes" near the end of the book in a footnote, is quoted as believing Bennett was the DeepThroat.

Most Watergate investigators think that "DeepThroat" is just a creative fictional composite concocted by Woodstein.

11. Drosnin was on Air America tuesday morning telling of the CIA plot.
He seemed a little flaky and I'm not sure I believe all he said. I think you may well be right about Deep Throat being a composite. After seeing Woodward basically revise what he had written about W and seeming to defend him, I wondered if Deep Throat was now W's pet name for Woodward.

12. His Naval Intellligence background and obvious duplicity when
it comes to dealing with questions from other reporters about his background keep him away from deeper discussions with historians and Watergate buffs etc. He will spend the rest of his days hitting softballs from Larry King ! Hardly true journalism anymore. How sad.

A book review of "Deep Truth: The lives of of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein
by Adrian Havill (Birth Lane Press) is at

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/electronic-publications/stay-free/books/deeptrth.htm

I wonder what Sen Robert F. Bennett of Mullen & Co. fame does when he sees Woodward these days !
