Gephardt's supporters -- where do they go now?

So where do Gephardt's supporters go now?

Do they go to Edwards, since both claim to be "working-class heroes"?

Or do they go to Dean, since Dean also has some union support?

Or maybe Kerry, if they want to get behind last night's winner.

I mean, I'm sure they're not going to monolithically switch to any particular candidate, but can anyone expect a bounce as a result of Gephardt's supporters dispersing?

I did notice them going in various directions last night on the caucuses on C-SPAN. Some went to Kerry, Edwards, and Dean.

Someone at work asked the same question of me...

I replied that since MOST of Gep's support came from the unions, they'd probably go where the unions "suggest" they go. Dean is the likely beneficiary of those that listen to the bosses, otherwise I suspect it doesn't really matter (to the majority). They'll vote for whoever the nominee is.

3. Dean

I think Dean will retool his message, and contact these unions, and perhaps Gephardt, to attain the unions. It is hard to say what Gephardt himself will do, I'm hoping he leaves it alone.

If he endorses one of the others, it'll look like sour grapes, since the perception is that Dean and Gephardt might have destroyed themselves by attacking one-another.

It is narrowing down to a military type, or a Washington insider military type, versus Dean, someone outside of the establishment who's proven he can do the job in his own state.

Most people want some sort of health-care, and Dean supports that. Most Democrats don't want continued gay-bashing, and Dean supports civil unions.

Many possible Democratic voters don't want more federal gun laws. Dean wants this type of legislation to stay at the state level.

Most Democrats want fiscal responsibility, they want to destroy the deficit, and begin to pay down the debt. Dean is the only candidate who has the sincerity to actually talk about the hard choices we as Americans must make. Paying down the debt will also have the effect of freeing up money for investment in America that is now occupied with financing our own government.

I heard some crazy guy on C-Span talking about Dean promoting wife-beating. It is no wonder, they've accused him of so much silly stuff on the media. But I hope for better now that the race is close. I don't by any means think Dean is gone, as seen by the enthusiastic speech he gave to his supporters last night.

4. Kerry, I would think

I think Dean is out of the question. Both Kerry and Edwards had nice words for Gep in their speeches last night. Dean, of course, could not do the same, unless I missed it.

Kerry got the most votes from union households last night, even more than Gep.

I think they will end up being split evenly between Kerry, Edwards and Clark.

7. Kucinich

If they know their issues they should go to Kucinich.No one has a pristine voting record on labor issues like DK. Gephardt was at times my second choice because I trust him on trade.All the others, I have my doubts, when you consider past statements or votes. Kucinich is the only one who can speak on trade and job losses without any past conflicts with support for this bartered trade.Gephardt's record on that issue was also free of conflicts..

8. He didn't ever have very many outside Iowa and Missouri

He was, at best, a regional canddiate.

Sorry to say, he's good guy in some respects.

But his Rose Garden IWR strategy realy backfired, I think.
