2. Isn't He Supposed to Have 5X That Number Already Volunteering in NH?
Undoubtedly, the campaign felt it important to muster a big turnout after such a big loss. I salute the Dean volunteers for getting out there so late and in the cold. They are dedicated and strong.

But if it had been 800 real New Hampshire voters, as opposed to campaign volunteers, now that might have been a little more impressive.

12. that'll be a nickel please!
;-) Woof! Of course, since I stole it myself, guess I can't sue you then.

You were civil and fair, not bashing. As I have said since Day 1: Anything can happen in politics, and usually does.

Personally, I will admit I enjoy standing astride the carcass of Dean's Iowa failure. His momentum is downward from here on out.

Let's now debunk some fallacies:

"Meme" 1 (gawd, I hate that term, but love it with a healthy does of irony): Clinton came in 3rd in Iowa in 1992, so this means Dean has a chance!

Troof: Clinton was running against Iowa favorite son and first-place Harkin, plus, Clinton was not favored nor the frontrunner at ANY time before Iowa. Dean was both as recently as a week ago, and Dean was ENDORSED by Harkin. Seems like endorsements are also non-transferable.

Meme 2: It's the media's fault!

Troof: Don't Dean supporters like to extol his "grassroots" and "superior fundraising and organization" as trumping the media and "getting the message out to the people"? Wasn't he supposed to be tough enough to take on Bush? Apparently he can'teven defeat the media, to hear them tell it tonight.

Meme 3: DK did it!

Troof: I wish. But the fact is, Howard Brush Dean III did it to his own damn self. As I have said at least 6,326 times on DU - Dean is his own worst enemy. I am quite sure his overzealous campaigners pissed off a lot of Iowans these past few weeks, not taking "No!" for an answer, until those "no's" were counted today.

*pokes Iowa with a stick*

I actually will probably be out in AZ either this weekend or next, volunteering for Clark, if you're around. :-) Not sure which city yet, though.

Personally, I will admit I enjoy standing astride the carcass of Dean's Iowa failure. His momentum is downward from here on out.

Me too, me too! I suspect Dean will come in second, but I would love to see him come in third (or better yet, fourth) in NH.

Absolutely right. Clinton wasn't even COMPETING in Iowa, really, no one was because they all gave it up to favored son Harkin. In contrast, Dean sank more resources into Iowa than anyone, and he still tanked badly.

The "it's DK's fault" bit is just ludicrous, IMO, so ludicrous that I am surprised anyone's actually claimed this. I haven't seen it tonight, personally (but I've seen memes 1 and 2 all over the place).

Frankly, I wish DK had the broad-based support to be ABLE to claim that he was Dean's downfall in Iowa. Not only because that would mean DK is kicking ASS, but also because if he'd truly helped engineer Dean's downfall, that would make me love DK even more than I already do. :D

14. Cool Zomby *high five*
wtg on the memolectomy there.

Also must join DTH in both sentiments. Nice show of support by the volunteers but still and again, it's the voters that count.

8. Its a valid comment.
Its a valid statement. Like the other poster, i salute Dean's campaign staff, but see the difference in impotence of having 800 people you hired greet you at the airport as opposed to having a spontaneous greeting from 800 voters.

9. Most of Them Aren't Hired
That's why I salute them, they're volunteers out there busting their asses out at 2 AM in the cold, coming from as far away as California for no other reason than belief and dedication in their candidate.

It's absolutely awesome. But you're also absolutely right, it's just not the same thing as a bunch of NH voters schlepping it out to greet Dean at 2 AM.

17. That's amazing, Slink!
Dean and most of his folks clearly still have a lot of heart left in them. Next week's vote will probably be just as topsy turvy as yesterday's...

18. I hope he doesn't let them down and gets a message, Slink....
Right now he really has no message that's catching on with voting public. It's like I have said earlier...The Tax Issue on the Middle Class must be revised. He must not say he's going to revise it, he must revise it and get it out there for everyone to see.

19. This is Pease AFB
in Portsmouth, NH - and some of those people are my neighbors, who aren't campaign workers - just voters, and who drove 2 hours to be there. I was invited to be there, but I couldn't go - I'm leaving for Washington today, and have too much to do before I go. By no means are these all staffers.
