Explain the history on the DLC...How did they take control of the party?
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 03:18 AM by fujiyama
Alright, gimme a history lesson. All I know is that they were formed in '84, or so I heard somewhere. Or is my timing off?

How they get power of the party? If they are so powerful how did a northest liberal governor like Dukakis get the nod in '88? Or did the DLC really take power through Clinton? After all, in their newsletters and publications it's their main (and seemingly rare) success story.

Hopefully someone with an intimate and inside knowledge of party politics can give an idea. I've seen too many "I'm leaving the party" threads. I think there's a history lesson in here somewhere. Perhaps progressives can take back the party, just the same way the DLC took control of it.

2. I will tackle this for you in the morning but in the meantime...
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 04:39 AM by Tinoire
If I forget (because I'm so tired) please pm me but I will attempt this for you. It's a dirty, nasty story and the link goes back to Leo Strauss, the godfather of the neo-Conservatives and the neo-Liberals who with their PNAC and their PPI have been working hand in hand to bring you the New World Order that both Bush and Clinton advanced (and before you or anyone else yells about Clinton, do a little research on what Cecil Rhodes stood for and what Rhodes scholars are groomed/trained/placed to work towards - read up on the Rhodes doctrine and the devastation it brought Africa, Rhodesia and whatnot). The key Democratic link was a Democratic Senator named Scoop Jackson who was to the right of most all Republicans and Democrats of the time and very involved in Iraq.

Richard Perle was Jackson's chief assistant from 1969 to 1980 and to this day, Richard Perle is a proud Democrat.

Wolfowitz, Elliott Abrams & Doug Feith were also Democrats who worked for/were proteges of Scoop Jackson in the 70s.

The truth about the DLC is very ugly and dirty and to be brutally honest with you, no matter how much it pains me personally to accept this, the PNAC infiltration originated in the Democratic Party. Some went on to infiltrate the Republican Party and we revile them as Neo-"Conservatives". Others stayed behind and more of us are catching on to the fact that there are Neo-"Liberals" among us aka the DLC.
BOTH parties have been taken over.

This is no longer just a fight of real Democrats taking back our party; it's also not just real Republicans taking back their party. We are now at a point where we all as Americans have to take back our political apparatus from the madmen of the New World Order.

Tomorrow, if you want, I'll answer any questions you have and with the help of other DUers who have been watching/exposing this for years, provide you with the research you need. Just be prepared to get really angry.

====

I posted this a couple of days ago for someone who wanted terminology but it answers some of your questions:

You have the neo-conservatives and their PNAC who have hijacked the Republican party.

then you have the neo-Liberals and their PPI who are so closely allied with the DLC (Democratic Leadership Council) that they make joint announcements on their appointments. There's a real rotating door between those two. They have hijacked the Democratic Party.

PNAC and PPI are both pretty much the same. http://rightweb.irc-online.org/org/ppi.php

If you need to read up, we've got a ton of research on this but a good place to start (for lurkers) is http://www.pnac.info/blog/archives/cat_the_pnac_opposition.html

Anyway, talk to you tomorrow if you want.

6. Interesting links
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 04:00 AM by fujiyama
I don't quite share the opinion that the two groups are exactly the same, but they are too similar for my comfort and I would just as soon rather have these fools not dictating the policy of the party.

Ultimately I find their analysis shallow and vapid, but I don't think they have quite the reach or the intelligence as PNAC.

That said, I'm tired of the power they hold and their attacks on liberals. They are hacks and have few ideas.

7. It just got worse... DLC just brought another PNACer on board
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1440617

A 2 time PNAC signatory by the name of Marshall Wittmann. A hard-nosed conservative Jew who was, get this, the Legistative Affairs Director for the Christian Coalition and member of several conservative, right-wing think tanks. Look how freely the door rotates; they guy went straight from PNAC & Ralph Reed's Christian Coalition to:

    DLC/PPI | Briefing | October 1, 2004
How To Contact DLC & PPI Spokespersons

The Democratic Leadership Council and Progressive Policy Institute staff are experts on a range of political and public policy issues, and are available to talk to the media.

In order to find the right spokesperson, please contact our press office at (202) 546-0007.

    DLC Spokespersons:

Al From, founder and chief executive officer of the DLC.

Bruce Reed, president of the DLC.

Holly Page, vice president for strategic development for the DLC.

Ed Kilgore, policy director for the DLC.

Debbie Cox, chief of staff for the DLC.

    Marshall Wittmann, senior fellow.

    PPI Spokespersons:

Will Marshall, president and co-founder of the Progressive Policy Institute.

Rob Atkinson, vice president of the Progressive Policy Institute and director of PPI's Technology & New Economy Project.

Paul Weinstein Jr., chief operating officer of the Progressive Policy Institute and PPI senior fellow, covering issues of pension and tax reform, transportation policy, and corporate responsibility.

John Cohen, director of PPI's Community Crime Fighting Project.

Edward Gresser, director of PPI's Trade and Global Markets Project.

David Kendall, director of PPI's Health Priorities Project.

Marc Porter Magee, director of PPI's Center for Civic Enterprise.

Jan Mazurek, director of PPI's Energy and The Environment Project.

Steven Nider, director of foreign and security studies.

Andrew Rotherham, director of PPI's 21st Century Schools Project.

Fred Siegel, PPI senior fellow, covering urban issues, smart growth, and transportation.

    Marshall Wittmann, PPI senior fellow.

    http://www.ndol.org/ndol_ci.cfm?kaid=85&subid=190&contentid=1238

This is extremely depressing. The only silver lining is that more and more people are quicky catching on to the dangers of the DLC and the PPI so the absorption of more PNAC signatories is not going to go unnoticed.

I can't get to the picture that goes with this but this chills me:

Wittmann and Reed orchestrated the Coalition's distribution of some 33 million pieces of campaign literature, most of it through churches, and galvanized the grassroots. Coalition exit polls showed that religious conservatives accounted for one-third of all votes cast.

8. Thanks for the info
It looks like some of these people truly are infiltrators.

That part about Whittman having an earlier role in the CC and being so close to Reed is very disturbing.
