Iowa Caucus, Dubuque County, Precinct 4
I just got home from the caucus so I thought I better tell you how it went.
I caucused for Dean, but he turned out not to be viable in this precinct. We ended up 4 bodies short of what we needed. We took our group en masse to the Edwards people, more to balance him off against Kerry than anything. Kerry won the precinct with 6 delegates, Edwards was second with 3, and Gephardt was third with 2. Kucinich had one supporter there, Clark, Leiberman, and Sharpton had nobody.
Things sure change in a hurry in this state. If someone had told me this 6 weeks ago, I would have laughed at them. At that time everything was Dean and Gephardt, with Kerry and Edwards distant blips on the radar. We did manage to get a delegate as part of the deal with the Edwards folks. At this time I have no idea how things are going in any of the other precincts. If I hear any news I will post it.

2. Not work, my friend.
When it comes to the Democratic Party, it is a labor of love. I better feel that way, I also got elected to the Democratic Central Committee in Dubuque County tonight.

7. Precinct 10
Just heard from a friend that Dean was not viable in another precinct.
In Precinct 10 it was Kerry - 4, Gephardt - 3, Edwards - 2, and Kucinich - 1.

10. Yellowdog, I'll probably get run out of Minnesota for saying this
but watching your caucuses tonight, I really wished I was an Iowan. I hope we get the turnout you did (even if no one pays any attention to ours.)

11. Precinct 4 is a fairly small precinct for this town.
The caucus secretary said they had 62 people at the last caucus and we had 128 tonight.
I am originally from Indiana where we did the usual primary thing, but I have to tell you I love the caucus procedure. You really feel like you are participating. You are standing up in front of everyone and there is now doubt about who you are or who you support. It seems to get to the bedrock of what democracy is all about.
