Sen. Bob Kerrey: "We would not have won the war in Iraq without the CIA"
Excuse me?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3226997/

Former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey: "In the military they give you the authority and command and you pay attention to detail, you bring an urgency to your mission and as a consequence if it's a success they give you a medal. If it's a failure you will not get promoted. You know who is responsible, you know who has the authority and as a consequence it's very easy to figure out who to blame if the thing goes bad. Where as in the current situation, you don't have that. You don't have a person who is running the 18 or 19 different agencies and again, I appreciate the concern that Duncan Hunter and other military advocates have but it's the same concern we heard prior to Goldwater-Nichols, they have to own it in order to control it, it isn't true so I think the big change is creating an national intelligence structure that has real budget and real personal authority to manage the community."

Imus: "It's not going to be someone from the CIA...aren't they a mess?"

Kerrey: "I don't think the CIA is a mess. We would not have won the war in Afghanistan without the CIA. We would have not won the war in Iraq without the CIA. They delivered exceptionally good intelligence in both battlefield efforts. I think for the most part they performed well. Increasingly we are getting our intelligence from open sources. We are not getting it through the CIA. One of the reasons why we need this legislative change is because you really don't need to rebuild the agency, you need a completely different kind of agency. You need a network community that can take advantage of open sources so you don't have the situation where analysts are sitting in a top secret area reaching conclusions and if they looked out the window they'd realize they were wrong. "

8. The Republicans know how to win wars. They just suck at
nation building. Of course, they haven't figured out that one has to do with the other.

4. What do you mean "excuse me"?
Looking at the context, it's not hard to figure out what he means.

Not every sentence spoken on this planet is uttered in a liberal/progressive vs neocon context, ya know.

7. True
But all we'll hear from now forward is that Bob Kerrey is a neocon because he said we won the war in Iraq. And these people wonder why Democrats can't get their message out and why we lose. :eyes:

13. Bob got nailed before for telling Kerry to conceed
He was a neo-con then some said.

It's always interesting to watch the black/white people demonized the same person. Katie Couric is a Republican here, and yet "Katie Communist" to the Freepers. Brokaw is a Repub here, and part of the Liberal Left media on Conservative radio.

Bill O'Reilly isn't Republican enough, or Dem enough either.

As a journalist, I can see why some of them would figure they're doing it right if both sides are attacking them. Must make them feel quite objective.

This is why I feel the need to get my info from more than one source. I try not to take anyone's words a gospel.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Bob's cool. I have trouble attacking the Senate Vet Club in general though. And Bob was a good friend to Kerry during the campaign.

Now that we have won the war there we can bring the troops home I guess...or keep them handy for the coming war with Iran.
