Just Heard on Randi Rhodes
That the Selective Service has contacted the Department of Education to make sure that everyone who is supposed to be registered with them is. Yeah right, there won't be a draft!

OMG, please make this stop before my son is old enough to register...seven and a half more years. I don't understand how "soccer moms" could have been convinced to vote for the shrub...He scared them into thinking they'd only be safe with him in power, but didn't they realize they were putting their children's futures in jeopardy???

2. Yeah right!
I can only hope that my son's diagnosis of ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome will prevent him from being combat eligible.

For that matter, here's a question...Now that women are in combat positions, do they have to register to? I have an eight year old daughter that would have nothing to save her from a draft.

5. The proposed draft legislation includes both men and women
And also raises the age of eligibility to 35 (I'm pretty sure on this number, but not 100% positive).

BTW, welcome to DU, Not_Giving_Up.

cheers,

7. they should make 35 the minimum age and 65 the max
that'd put the brakes on the war in a hurry

9. Regarding girls, or 'females,' as the military calls us, I heard a MN
news radio report about one of our Guard units being called up: It has an unusually high percentage of 'females' - over half the unit are women.

The spokeswoman being interviewed said the overall percentage of women serving in Iraq is about 10%.

13. Look. There are options one CAN take.
And that I intend to take if the time comes.

One has to protect one's child by keeping him/her out of the service. It's that simple. You don't turn them over to the Nazis. And at the same time you don't allow them to become the tools the Nazis use to kill Muslim children.

15. The giggling murderer won't get my kids
59million idiots supposedly voted for the lying drunk - they and their kids can go camp in the desert. Lots of big, healthy Repugs in MLB and the NFL - start with them and their friends.

14. I've heard...
Not substantiated, but my mom says that if you've taken ritalin for two or more years, that will keep you out of the army. It's what she's counting on to keep my little brother out! I guess that's why she thought it was okay to vote for bush (grumble...)

6. So let your son tell the drafters he is gay.
oh and be sure to let the school know your child is opted out of the part of "No Child Left Behind" that gives his name to the recruiters.

10. Bush twins
There will never be a draft of women with the Bush sluts being draft age. Of course if there was they will just happen to draw the highest numbers and never get called up. They should HAVE to go now as should all the sons and daughters of the hawks who voted for this Bushwar.

21. No kidding....
I had no idea.

Of course, our school district gives out the names of the kids to local churches. We get mail addressed to the kids BY NAME advertising Vacation Bible School. I have expressed to the district that I don't want ANYONE getting my children's information unless I give written consent, but it does no good. And, hell, this is Texas...don't we all go to church?:grr:

12. my son is not going PERIOD
no matter what, hs is not going. Hopefully he won't be called, but I am convinced that if he goes, i will lose him. He is not going. HELL NO WE WON"T GO is on it's way back in. If he can not be removed from the list for any other reason, then i will disable him myself if i must. He is not going. I'm not big enough to give my only son. Without him what is my life? So I WILL do WHATEVER it takes, but he WILL NOT be fighting this war
Now maybe if i felt that this war is as much of a threat to humankind as this president is, then maybe I would let him defend his country. But this war is Bush's war and my son will not die for him.

Your son does not need to be sent to die for Halliburton and PNAC. Canada has some great cities and wonderful people.

No way, no how, not happening!!!!

My brother is in the Navy...a commissioned officer, currently deployed, and we are worried sick. Of course, without it, there would have been no college.

18. I posted something about this two weeks ago on DU...
...there was a news item about the Selective Service department filing the necessary paperwork to synch their database with the one in the Department of Education.

The majority of the replies I got to that post said that it was a required, routine formality.

That doesn't mean that we won't have a draft...it just means that this is not a VALIDATION of any potential draft to come.

:toast:
