The biggest statewide Democratic landslide this year was Barbara Boxer
She won by 20 percentage points. She is one of the most liberal senators. I rest my case.

25. More people voted for Democratic Senate candidates than for Repub
Senate candidates nationwide. Yet Repubs picked up four seats, and now they're acting like the Dems don't matter.

2. FDR won more Presidential elections than anyone else
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 02:43 PM by sangh0
and he was not "the most liberal" candidate. And in some elections, FDR was known for undermining the campaigns of some liberal Dems in order to help moderate Dems, third-party candidates, and even some repukes.

There is no simple formula for winning a presidential election. If there were, everyone would do it, and everyone would win, an obvious impossibility

3. What was the difference between the number of votes for Boxer and
the number for Kerry. It would be very odd for there to be a huge difference.

window will crash my browser at work..BUT..even conservatives like my boss voted for Boxer..why? because she returned his phone calls when he needed assistance.

16. Here's the numbers
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 03:25 PM by pmbryant
http://vote2004.ss.ca.gov/

Boxer 6,500,826 57.8%
Kerry 6,298,285 54.4%

Boxer did win 200,000 more votes than Kerry, but that's not a huge difference in California. And she was the incumbent, whereas Kerry was challenging an incumbent, so she had an easier task.

Not much we can conclude from that, I think.

30. It's California
It's a blue-state, even if a repuke has won from time to time. NY also elects repukes sometimes, but it's true-blue in presidential elections. Just like CA

Comparing a state race to a national one is childish. I can cherry-pick elections and find one to justify almost any point.

Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 04:56 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
I'll fucking unload right back on ya..consider this your notification.

BTW...that "liberal" state California gave you Reagan and Nixon...my point Sangho is that liberals CAN win ..that we DON'T need to mimic Repubs to win big and that there is no great need to cater to corporations.
Now...as I said..I'm happy to debate points with you and concede where I may not be correct..but don't do your name calling shit with me....

33. And NY gave us Giuliani, Pataki and Bloomberg
but still votes solid blue in national elections.

Yes, liberals can win, but being a liberal is no garauntee of anything. Also, Kerry did not "mimic Republicans"

Meanwhile, in West Virginia, several liberal Dems incumbents lost their seats to conservative repukes, while the only incumbent repuke who lost was defeated by a "bush*-lite" Dem.

Every state is different, and states often vote differently in state-wide elections that they do in nation-wide elections because the role of president is much different than the role of a senator, or governor, etc.

but don't do your name calling shit with me....

Read what I wrote.

......then again, there are a lot of conservatives who voted for him too. Like Boxer, he responds to the average person's questions and concerns which too many incumbant senators lose focus of.....

24. True but she also beat Bill Jones....
...who may be the worst campaigner ever. He was awful against Gray Davis. And this time around he had alot less money and support.

Not that I think she lost against another opponent but it would likely have been closer.

32. BOXER BECOMES THIRD BIGGEST VOTE GETTER
WASHINGTON -- Little noticed in this month's election was that the nation's third biggest vote getter, behind only President Bush and John Kerry, was Sen. Barbara Boxer, a fiery California Democrat who proudly wears her liberalism on her sleeve.

In a campaign year when the GOP picked off most of its Democratic targets, Boxer sailed to a third Senate term Nov. 2 with 6.4 million votes, 200,000 more than Kerry got in the state. Ralph Nader's total for the country: 407,000 votes.

Boxer crushed former California Secretary of State Bill Jones by 20 percentage points and scored a bigger share of the electorate than Democrat Dianne Feinstein, the state's senior and more popular senator, got in her last election.

This from a San Francisco Bay Area liberal who's made a habit of exasperating the GOP, whether taking on the Pentagon over a $7,600 coffee pot -- a fight she waged as a junior congresswoman two decades ago -- or leading opposition to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

"She's certainly one of the most liberal senators in the country, and one that Republicans love to hate," said Ken DeBow, a political scientist at California State University, Sacramento. "And they can't come close to touching her."
