I'm voting at my Iowa caucus site tonight for the first time - for Kerry
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 04:51 PM by ScholarSeeker
This will be the first time I've been involved in a primary or a caucus so I'm pretty excited! I spent the weekend in Des Monies with other Kerry supporters.

I have to be at my caucus site at 6:00. I'm cleaned up and ready to go and sitting on pins and needles! I'm told they close the doors at 6:30 and we go to meeting areas for our candidates and discuss an agenda and then come back and vote. Then it gets interesting because those that don't have enough votes try to persuade others to their side. The whole thing could take a couple hours before it's done.

I'll let you know how my caucus site came out. This is exciting and I won't sleep until I know the results tonight.

I hope I did this post right with the rules in this forum. I read the rules and I think this is okay.

9. Congratulations, this caucus thing seems more interesting
than just going to the polls and touching a screen. Please let us know all the details. I just watched an Iowa training caucus, they used soft drinks as the candidates. I rooted for root beer, but boring old coke won. Coming in second were the undecideds who were louder and gave the coke people a run for their money.

10. LOL! That's interesting. The process has been explained to me somewhat
but your version sounds a lot more fun. I would go against the grain and vote for Pepsi myself. :)

I'm not sure where I'd go for second choice. Possibly Edwards.

16. The training show was really interesting
The trainer said if it has been decided you do not have enough people in your group, you should look around the room and find friends and neighbors in other groups and try to entice them over to your group. People started leading cheers, whispering in each others ears, grabbing people's hands, all trying to get people to switch camps.

Pepsi and lemonaid were the two groups that didn't have enough people and they were really working it.

12. You are democracy in action.
I know it's stone cold in Iowa and there are probably a thousand reasons to stay home and warm. And I do not care who you are going to vote for...you are going to vote and in doing that you strike a blow for all of us against the tyranny of the present administration. You are a role model for all of us. You sound like you may be a relatively young person and I will tell you from experience, you will never forget this moment. Thank you from all of us.

14. It's not THAT cold.
It's in the teens here - that's nothing. In Iowa we call that JANUARY and dress for it.

I am not young and have always voted in the general elections but never involved in a caucus before. The 2000 stolen election woke me up and I mean to have some say in this one.

I'll post the details when I get home tonight.

17. Good luck to your candidate....
I'm sorry I can't be more positive, but he's another one of those wimps who would sell the Taiwanese down the river to appease the anti-worker, anti-freedom fascists in China.

20. Okay, I'm off to the races now!
I have to make another stop first and then go straight to the caucus site at the school.

I'll report the details and the results when I get back but it could be late.

Thanks for the support and sharing my enthusiasm! I'm off to the races now!!

25. Oh, how exciting for you. I'm very jealous. After seeing how a caucus
works, my primary seems so impersonal.

Good Luck and hold fast. You can make Kerry the winner.
