Are All These Resignations Normal?
I mean is this an acceptable number. I know there are always changes, but is this going anywhere good/bad?

1. I don't think quite this many usually quit,
but I don't know, everyone who quit sucked, and their replacements suck as well.

3. It's unclear whether the poster is referring to the resignations..

..of the President's cabinet (fairly normal) or the resignations at the CIA (very unusual, imo).

4. Define 'normal' in this situation
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 10:03 AM by htuttle
i would, however, guarantee that it's not going anywhere good. With Bush, it only gets bad -- AND ONLY GETS WORSE....

5. Same thing happened in 1972 when Nixon cleaned house
Ironically Nixon was impeached within 2 years after that. I wonder if the same thing will happen to Bush.

6. This is unusually high, I believe.
There certainly was some turnover between Clinton I and Clinton II, but this is getting ridiculous.

10. Actually
Clinton replaced about half of his cabinet (7 or 8 out of 14). It's quite common.

Remember WHO it is that fills most of these positions. It's largely political payback for help with the campaign... and it's time to put new faces in there - whether they are "better" or not.

11. I think it's customary for the entire Cabinet to turn in their resignations
and the prez accepts only those he wishes. Think I saw that on West Wing!

14. Yes, it's normal...
Each two-term President has resignations like this at the beginning of his second term. Bush hasn't had any more or less than Clinton.

For example, four key officials from the Clinton administration -- Secretary of State Warren Christopher, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Trade Mickey Kantor and Secretary of Energy Hazel O’Leary waited until the end of Bill Clinton’s first term to resign. Resignations also included other figures like Christoper's Chief of Staff (Donilon), etc...

It's normal, but the media seems to be playing it up like it's "unusual". The media doing that?! Go figure. ;)

17. SecDef
Clinton SecDef Les Aspin left early after Somalia (he was the one who walked the plank after Mogadishu) and was replaced by a Republican who served the rest of the first term and all of the second. Poor Les Aspin (died soon after) was a policy wonk and a real go-getter on the House Armed Services Committee, but was hopelessly out of his depth in the bureaucratic jungle of DoD.
