Anyone else feeling impending doom? Condi - an utter failure
She is not only incompetent, she has no background necessary to run State. her dismal performance as NSA head is a poor omen for foreign affairs. Or should that be, "four more fears".

2. Sure, Bush will surround himself with yesmen
and get rid of any discordant notes from people with a grip on reality as he further isolates himself from the rest of the country and from the world as a whole.

Personally, I think the best thing this country could do at this point would be to electrify the fence around the White House and guard the gates to prevent them from getting OUT and just label it what it is: an insane asylum.

5. I agree with you
But then there's that damn helicopter...

We are going to have payback for all the shit this regime has done and we're going to pay BIG.

3. Silver lining?
Her incompetence as National Security Advisor led to the deaths of nearly 3000 innocent Americans in the worst terrorist attack to date on American soil. Incompetence as Secretary of State would lead to what--all the nations of the world being angry at us? That mission has already been accomplished. So really, she doesn't need to do anything. She is free to keep hanging out at the White House and continue drawing her paycheck as the country's most expensive nanny/governess.

I'm sure I'm oversimplifying the duties of Sec of State. Any enlightenment will be appreciated.

4. Even bigger concern than Condi's incomparable incompetence
now being bestowed on State, is the dread of who will replace her at NSA...

6. What would you say the background should be for a
Secretary of State?

12. Experience in international negotiation might be nice
And for once, it would be really refreshing to have someone with actual Foreign Service experience who had risen through the ranks, including an ambassadorship.

7. My $.02 worth
Condi will take her marching orders directly from Rummy. DoD will run foreign policy. Condi will be a messenger, not a negotiater. They will use bribery as a foreign policy tool because they don't know how to use anything else.

Condi will be sent on a "milk run" mission first. Something that has already been agreed to and the press will trumpet her as a diplomatic genius.......

I cannot IMAGINE her being an effective diplomat or negotiater. I cannot see her bringing closer bonds between Europe and the US. I see her getting her diplomatic lunch eaten by China...and maybe by Putin.

8. UK. Blair will hold a gala for her.
ON orders of Bush.

It will get lots of airplay on CNN, Faux, and local news. LOTS of airplay.

Think of a coronation, only bigger.

"And here, from the Unites States, the most brilliant, experienced, and diplomatic geniuses in the world, we present, Condi!"

10. If State had any power, she wouldn't be getting the job
She's going to be our own little olive branch - not that anyone outside our borders is going to give a flying fuck.

State's been fighting the long defeat of lost influence and diminishing power ever since Dulles died - or, arguably, since Acheson left in 1952.

11. This is an utter disgrace
How in hell can this complete incompetent be Sec. of State? I thought that position required some modicum of ability and talent. Instead it gets Bush's useless, lying F-Buddy.

Rice being the person responsible for advising on National Security, After 9/11 she should have been kicked out and should now be mopping a supermarket floor somewhere. Lying sack of S*@T.

15. Yes, impending doom
is what I feel. Foreboding. The first thought is terrorism, but that might not be it at all. It just might be a continuing deterioration into chaos. Whatever it is, it's not going to be pretty.
