Kucinich will fix our priorities
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 12:39 PM by redqueen
MOST WOULD agree with this modest request of the next president of the United States: Please waste fewer of our tax dollars on special interests and instead spend more on our schools, health care, the environment, the poor, and the hungry at home and abroad.

There's only one candidate running for president who has a practical plan to do this. That candidate is congressman Dennis Kucinich.

While all the Democratic candidates are infinitely better than President Bush -- only Kucinich advocates changing the way our government spends our tax dollars in order to reflect the values of America's people. How we spend our money as a nation reflects our values and beliefs.

Our nation's checkbook tells us that America's priorities are really wrong -- and Kucinich is the one candidate bold enough to say so.

1. Cutting 15% of the Defense budget is a snap.
and it won't hurt our national security one bit. Everybody knows that at least that much is pork and/or largely unaccounted for.

Not electorate poison to cut defense. The only people really against it are from the Military Industrial Complex, but for some reason, only Clark & Kucinich are willing to cut.

Shows fiscal responsibility as well as commitment to the right priorities. How else do the other candidates propose to pay for their social programs?

2. The MIC has people fooled
Either they have the public fooled, thinking that cutting defense budget would somehow lessen our security. (Hello? How does fraud make us more secure?) Or they have the candidates fooled, thinking that the electorate will not vote for someone who has a logical policy with respect to defense spending.

3. The president doesn't control the check book.
How would Kucinich convince a republican controlled or evenly split congress to support his initiatives? I like Kuciniches proposals but they don't have a chance with this congress and we are not likely to see a major change in the make up of the house or senate any time soon. I want to hear realistic goals and objectives. This isn't a slam at Kucinich, just reality. Clark's proposals are equally unrealistic. IMO, major changes are not going to happen, at best we can hope to roll back changes already made and to stop further right wing initiatives.

6. True, but his plan involves a Dem congress
He doesn't aim low. :)

He's basing his campaign on imploring the electorate to elect downballot Democrats, if they want his agenda implemented. He often refers to the mandate FDR received, when just over a hundred Democratic congressmen and senators were elected with him. Just as Dean says - the power is with the people.

8. Can't you say the same about all the candidates?
and seeing how a Republican controlled congress runs, would you really want to get anything passed?

If that's the scenario, the best we could hope for is a president who's not afraid to veto the crap that these guys try to pass off as legislation.

7. LOL - not hardly
Collaborating to improve the outcome in a caucus state does not equate to 'blowing out'. :)

5. Funny things priorities...
They can help change the world. Do we want to change the world for the better or do we want to 'just win'? Priorities...bah fiddlesticks!
