Do you fit the definition of "progressive"..?
according to the Merriam-Webster pocket dictionary, progressive:

noun - 1. a person believing in moderate social improvement by government action, 2. one that is progressive.

adjective - characterized by progress, 2. advancing by stages

I suppose the promoting of this term vs liberal is that liberal has had such a hatchet job done on it, so saying progressive bypasses all that negative connotation.

3. I guess I'm a liberal progressive....
I want radical change but am only expecting that we can "advance by stages" and that some government action is needed to make the changes stick.

5. hi, msongs! once a liberal, always a liberal
I've been confused by the term progressive, but if the shoe fits . . . which it sometimes seems to. The term liberal connotes tolerance which I like. I don't always find that people who identify themselves as progressives are quick to identify themselves as tolerant of all points of view. I find that the term "progressive" gives people a little more leeway to be radical, and I'm not always willing to go there. But, again, I'm just learning about this term! Glad you brought it up! Good to see a kerry blogger!

6. It fits me, but I will always be a liberal.
Besides, I really don't like the idea of having to change 'our' definition because the repukes have made 'liberal' a dirty word. I'm not giving it up because of them. In fact, I want to shout it from the hilltops and make everyone understand what a liberal really is.

And I'm going to start by wearing a t-shirt that matches my sig line. And I'm going to wear it a LOT. If we shove that line down their throats, well, hey, what works, works. ;)

7. What Dem2 said....
I'm a liberal and progressive...and proud to be so. Besides, in my mind, they are synonimous. You can't sustain progress without being able to entertain new ideas, the very definition of being liberal.

8. "Progressive" is not a new label but it has yet to be demonized, which

makes it useful.
