5. i read that red use to refer to the party that is NOT in office

or something else similar such as it represented the challenging candidate.

but over time it seems blue has come to represent the democrats and red refers to republicans. no matter who is challenger, incumbant etc.

and i guess it is less confusing to always refer to each of the parties in the same color.

i also heard somewhere that the republicans like the red to represent them because it seems to stand out even more than blue. especially with some many large red areas(even though their actual populations are small). this makes them seem like they have more support than they actually do.

12. Looking at the county by county map
is even more depressing. The entire stretch from MN down to LA was almost completely red (or more appropriately blue), but is now the opposite.
