How about an election audit on the DNC?
I think it would be instructive and useful to find out why the DNC or DLC didn't see this coming (or even moreso if they did)and start strong and concerted action right after 2000 to require verifiable voting machines for the 2004 election. This is not a recrimination post...I for one need to understand the political equivalent of LIHOP.

2. digital divide?
Mark Crispin Miller wrote,

I actually got invited to a Kerry fundraiser so I could talk to him about it. I raised the issue directly with him and with Teresa. Teresa was really indignant and really concerned, but Kerry just looked down at me -- he's about 9 feet tall -- and I could tell it just didn't register. It set off all his conspiracy-theory alarms and he just wasn't listening.

3. Grassy knoll! Grassy knoll!
This tinfoil stuff is just out of control.

The DNC is not interested in political suicide, which is exactly what contesting an election where the margin was 3 Million votes would be.

They're more interested in winning elections (though they've done a bad job of it lately) than in venting their frustration.

4. they'll never win an election again if they dismiss the idea that
like radio, there must be a little man in the voting machines for them to be hacked.

Because they're taking the election results on faith, discarding the evidence of the exit polls without curiousity, it will happen again.

Keep your tinfoil, but bang the drum.

5. I agree that election reform should be a priority.
But to talk about "the political equivalent of LIHOP" is just insane.

"Let it happen on purpose" (LIHOP) implies far more cybersavvy than the Miller anecdote above suggests.

I can imagine that they understood too late, and knew that the rest of the country wouldn't believe them. It's playing out now through the most traditional schoolyard election process: Hold up every paper ballot.

The whole country has to understand together.

7. Read my post again
I'm not suggesting they contest the election. I am trying to understand the lack of action before the election...not to blame but to analyze. Did they really think that raising a serious challenge to "faith-based" voting and demanding verifiability would seem too "tin foil"? Is this an American thing....naive trust in technology?
