At this point the idea that Specter will be some kind of bullwork protecting us all from the nutty federal bench appointees of
AWOL II is absurd. He cares far more about his prescious perch as Chairman than he does any alleged "priciples" that he fancies himself having. He'll do whatever AWOL wants just as long as the elevator operator in the Russell Building has to say "Good morning, Mr. Chairman." I say let the fundies take this guy down and further alienate whatever "moderates" are left in the GOP. I can't think of anything more likely to get people like Lincoln Chafee to jump ship then the beheading of Snarlin' Arlen. At this point the best thing we've got going for us is the rabid insanity of our opponents. Sooner or later they'll go over a cliff.
