Jesse Jackson, Jr. touts Dean for DNC chair.
http://www.thetimesonline.com/articles/2004/11/10/news/illiana/12d7c85b2a9d08a286256f48000aa3e4.txt

SNIP.."U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is trying to convince former presidential candidate Howard Dean to take the helm of a Democratic Party in desperate need of revitalization.

The former Vermont governor, who was largely considered the front-runner in the Democratic primary race before a sudden political collapse, is seen by Jackson as the candidate of choice to take over the Democratic National Committee...."

SNIP.."Aside from building on his own organization, Dean contributed to more than 1,000 campaigns, Jackson said. Dean has continued to build a solid organization since his loss in the primaries, he said.

While some may view Dean as too far left on the political spectrum to sway Republican or undecided voters, Jackson said Dean has the ability to appeal to those in the "red" states -- and had a firm plan for that during his campaign.

The national party needs to shift gears, Jackson said. The focus has been on candidate personalities, when it should be on what the party is committed to and what members stand for....Spokesperson Laura Gross said Dean is focused on improving the future of the party, but there are a number of issues to be considered...."

"No decision has been made, but he's listening," Gross said.END SNIP

1. I give that idear a qualified......No....because
Dean would be strait jacketed as much as the DNC possibly could do it.

independently, he can go around the country supporint local dems like he is doing in democracyforamerica.com as DNC chair he might not be able to pick and choose and endorse.

2. I have mixed feelings on this. I really do.
It would be nice if he could continue to use DFA as a base...never been done before though. You are right they will hold him down.

6. Yep, I too have the same mixed feelings
If Jackson wants Dean to be DNC Chief and Dean accepts, Jackson and all those Dems who support this move by Dean better defend him against the DLC clowns, like Bayh, Lieberman, Biden, etc. None of them will support Dean publicly or defend him against Repuke attacks.

3. I think he is right
Dean would be a great DNC Chair and give the party a much needed lift. I wish the press would stop calling him a leftist though, he governed from the middle, but the media assumes that people who oppose the war but be leftists.

4. That is the label the DLC gave him.
I agree, he never was leftist at all. He is pragmatic and thinks for himself, and that is how he got the attention of so many.

5. Here is a key statement there by Jackson.
SNIP...""He is the only candidate who emerged out of the 2004 campaign to build a serious organization," said Jackson, who recently asked Dean to consider seeking the chairman spot..."

13. Wes Clark has worked hard for the party, too!
He traveled all over the country supporting candidates, & is trying to work making the Dems stronger on national security.

14. Wes Clark publicly admited that the reason he was in the Primary race
was to take the anti-war vote away from Dean. He said so on the Charley Rose show.

Clark is a faux Dem and a political opportunist without the talent.

Dean is a genuine Democrat who has the correct diagnosis of the Dem Party's ills. Clark hasn't a clue and doesn't care about the future of the Dem Party.
