Poll question: If 2008 is a Ham Sandwich versus Jeb Bush, who would win?
Assuming nothing changes and both sides repeat their strategies.

but of course he'd steal it, likely eat the sandwich in the process.

3. Assuming nothing changes
Bush will win.
That's what it means if nothing changes, right?

12. This is why I voted Bush
Because the poll is about what you think would happen, not whether you would vote for the sandwich over Bush. Right?

4. I Think
the more appropriate question would be, "If in 2008 a ham sandwich runs on the Repub ticket, will it beat a living, breathing, well-known Dem with government experience who isn't Bill Clinton?"

Clearly, the answer is yes.

5. The Ham sandwich strategy has already proven to be a loser
If they love their boy, and we merely tolerate our boy, then they win.

14. "Anybody But (fill-in the blank)" is a miserable failure
Saying "I am not Bush" and "Look at me, I was in Vietnam" are a poor substitute for an alternate vision and program.

The working class is disoriented and easily manipulated by the capitalists because it lacks a class consciousness. Our challenge is to develop that class consciousness among working men and women.

View from the US left

Martin Schreader, editor of Appeal to Reason, paper of the revolutionary Debs faction of the Socialist Party US

Into the abyss

Certain wooden-headed elements of the left will, of course, continue to assert that little, if anything, new has happened as a result of this election. They will continue to see the old institutional facades in place and will impressionistically conclude that all talk of a new period in American history as delusional. They will note that the uniquely American brand of anti-democratic, anti-worker corporatism that has taken hold in Washington does not correspond to what they read in history books and vulgarly conclude that nothing has really changed. In this author’s view, these are little more than the echoes of the past and should be treated as such.

It is time for class-conscious working people, revolutionary socialists and communists to face forward and begin to come to grips with the new situation confronting us. Working class unity will have to take as its starting point the development of a common assessment of this situation and the revolutionary democratic tasks that inevitably flow from it. Left unity - if such a thing is still possible - will have to be its by-product.

22. I don't know much about Jeb...
...but were the ham sandwich already chewed, swallowed, digested, sh@t out, neatly arranged in a pile on the White House doorstep and set alight, it would still make a better president, I'm convinced, than anyone in the Bush dynasty.

Vote the fecal former ham sandwich in '08! Restore dignity to the Oval Office! Two legs good; no legs BETTER!

Seriously, though, we won't have to make this choice. The Defense of the Presidency Act of '07 will abolish all the uncertainty caused by elections. After all, changing chief executives in the middle of an eternal war will only send mixed signals to the terrorists*.

29. Jeb
Jeb would probably win because he would cheat.
But I think the ham sandwich would keep us safer.

Let's hope it's a Virginia ham. We need a candidate from the south in order to compete.

And would bring in the 'starving' vote. But his speaking skills are lacking. Maybe if he picked something southern, like a sloppy joe, as his running mate.

35. 2004 Prez Election result answered this question
We ran a Ham Sandwich against the most corrupt Prez in history and the Ham Sandwich lost, and if it wasn't for the ABB vote, he would have lost in a landslide. The Dem Ham Sandwich can not count on an ABB vote in 2008 because many progressives, this one included, will not vote for the candidate of choice from the Dem Losership Council.
