Poll question: Now that the dust has settled, what's the worst part?
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 03:15 PM by senseandsensibility
Everywhere we turn, it seems that there is some aspect of this that is enraging and depressing. But what's the worst part? I hope that this can be a proactive exercise. When there is consensus on the worst aspect, that's where we should put our energies, IMHO. For that reason, please do not say all of the above. I'd really like to narrow our anger down so that our efforts will be more effective. Thanks, everybody.

1. Realizing that the world really is polarizing for a massive religious war
Look at what happened in the Netherlands with Theo Van Gogh - it's happening, the ancient battlelines are being drawn once again, and it will become a massive confligration. Of this I have no doubt. The die is now cast.

16. So far it seems the concensus
is the silence from major Dems, and I too find that very troubling. Since I started the poll, Michael Moore has come out with a fraud piece on his website.:loveya: I knew Michael would some through. I think we should all e-mail leading Dems about their silence!

2. We did this to ourselves
That's what really sucks. This whole catering to the swing voters thign. I went along because I had no choice. This is worse than Dukakis in many ways.

4. The silence
Someone stand up for us, please.

On a personal note, the depression when I realized I'll be 30 before GWB is finally out of the white house.

80% of my 20's will have been spent with that asshole in charge.

5. Yes
I am glad that a large part of my youth was spent with Clinton in charge. He's not perfect, as we've found out recently, but he's a frigging angel compared to *.

8. Well, I'm happy for you anyway
About the Clinton part I was only 14 when Clinton won his first term and in 1996, it was the first time I was allowed to vote. I voted but I still wasn't all that interested in politics.

I didn't really become interested in politics until the 2000 mess and then on 9/11.

ALL major dems and liberals; even Sharpton is silent. I expect the media to be silent. I have yet to hear any explanation for this.

9. The realization that the course of this country is set for the next 30 to
Barring some catastrophe like the depression of the thirties or second world war we are watching the reshaping of the political landscape that will turn this country to the right for at least two generations. IMHO!

13. didn't have much faith in 'em to begin with
but I believed they would rise to the occasion this time. This election shouldn't even have been close, even with cheating (which I have no doubt took place).

20. the assumption that Kerry lost because he was too liberal..
Kerry's healthcare plan, tax plan, and his plan to improve homeland security came from the DLC playbook. On the gun issue both candidates supported the assault weapons ban and criminal background checks. Bush opposes allowing those who are 18-21 own a gun, even if they served in the military! Kerry supports the right of all law-abiding citizens to bear arms. Yet the NRA endorsed Bush because Kerry wasn't racist enough.

With every passing day the media blames Kerry's defeat on high taxes, radical liberalism, indecisive 9/11ism, and immoral counterculturalism. Despite the fact Kerry did not support national healthcare, he opposed increasing taxes on middle-class Americans, and fiscal responsibility was a central theme of his campaign..now he has lost for being a rabid supporter of big-spending socialism.

If Kerry is now considered too radical to win, where does this place Republicans like Lincoln, Eisenhower, or even Nixon?

They're not on the corporate media, that's for sure. I'd nominate Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, however.

some things easier than others, but what I have the hardest time dealing with is the simple fact that Bush will be poisoning the Oval Office for the next four years.

It feels like no matter how much happiness I may encounter in the next 48 months there will always be an emptiness and anger that just cannot be wiped away nor alleviated.
