UERGENT: VOTE FRAUD? Tell everyone you know -- details
Mods -- I am cross-posting this in several forums. Please don't delete or lock.

It is imperative that we raise public awareness of the possibility (probability) of vote fraud in this election. DUers have accumulated, as always, compelling analysis, research and in some cases statistical evidence.

Now we need to take it on the road.

All you have to do is tell everyone you know -- and ask THEM to tell everyone they know.

Here is a terrific suggested email letter (thanks to crispini) and a good handful of links (I purposely broke them in half trying to override DU's truncation so you can copy and paste -- you may want to un-break them before emailing them).

I'll post the letter separately, and the links separately (since they're both a little lengthy). Feel free to adopt, modify, etc. as fits your needs. Or compose your own letter (please share).

But the really important thing is getting awareness raised -- FAST and furious, as only the internet can do (in the absence of a viable national press).

1. Letter
(Again, feel free to adapt, modify or use something else -- just do it. :D )

Vote Fraud? Email Media, Congress, and Your Personal Network.

Fellow Activists:

What happened on November 2, 2004? Did we in fact have a fair election?

There are many stories floating around the internet. A voting machine in Ohio gave Bush 4,000 extra votes. 11,238 more votes recorded in North Carolina than were actually cast. An electronic tally in Florida failed to record thousands of votes in a ballot initiative. The Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, from Florida's 16th District, Jeff Fisher, says he "has evidence that the Florida election was hacked." (Link:
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/1106-30.htm) And, the House Judiciary Committee wrote a letter on Friday to the GAO asking them to investigate. (Link:
http://www.house.gov/judiciary_democrats/gaoinvestvote2004ltr11504.pdf)

And this is just the beginning.

Let me tell you about one particular story. A curious number-cruncher on the internet, Ida Briggs, did some evaluation on New Hampshire voter data. The numbers imply that "voters in small and rural precincts in New Hampshire are MORE LIBERAL than their "big city" counterparts which is contrary to anecdotal evidence and recognized nationwide trends. Coincidentally, the increase appears to occur in areas where "more sophisticated" means of vote counting are employed." Such as the Diebold Accuvote machine. (Link:
http://www.invisibleida.com/New_Hampshire.htm)

These numbers are outside the margin of error.

Now, this phenomenon could in fact be due to a mistake, and not to any deliberate fraud. These numbers might be right. We just don't know. We do know that in order to validate the count in New Hampshire, it's time to call for a manual recount. When your checkbook doesn't balance -- you re-check it, right?

But...why are we looking at New Hampshire? It went for Kerry, right? Yes... .but if there was a problem anywhere with vote tabulation software, the same problem would probably appear other places with the same vote tabulation software. Furthermore, New Hampshire votes on paper ballots (then fed into optical scanners), and therefore the vote can be recounted. Also, New Hampshire has one of the earliest deadlines for contesting an election, and it is (comparatively) easier to get a recount there. Also, if there are provable issues in New Hampshire, this opens the door for other states. Finally, what does it matter if the state went for Kerry? If there are systemic problems, don't you want to know about them? Don't you want to have an accurate and fair vote, regardless of the outcome?

The request for a recount has already been filed with the New Hampshire Secretary of State by Ralph Nader. The Green Party candidate David Cobb has called for an investigation. Badnarik might be thinking about challenging in Ohio.

You might be wondering...where's the Kerry campaign? Where are all those lawyers? Well, we don't know. They might be doing something and not telling us, and then again, they might not. Certainly any Kerry attempt to contest the vote would have created a media circus which would have branded him a "Sore Loserman" a la 2000. Just bear in mind: A concession speech is not legally binding, and it's not over til the Electoral College says it is.

So, what are we asking YOU to do?

1. Send this to EVERYONE in your address book
2. Write the media.
3. Write your congressperson.
4. Donate to the recount effort.
5. Stay tuned
6. See the list of links to many other discussions at the bottom of this email.

1. Send this to EVERYONE in your address book
We need to raise awareness of this issue. Our national media has for the most part simply accepted wildly divergent exit polls versus "actual" results and is underreporting problems that occurred all over the country. We have to use the power of the internet to inform people about this vital issue.

2. Write the Media
We need as many people as possible to write the media. The more folks they hear from, the less likely they are to discount it as tin-foil-hat conspiracy theory.

There is a comprehensive list of media contact information
at:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=106x8816

Send email --There is a complete list of email addresses suitable for cutting and pasting if you scroll down to the bottom.

Also, pleaseconsider writing snail mail! Regular mail is given much more weight than email.

3. Write your Congressperson

Sample Letter for #1 and/or #2: Please Customize Yourself!.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Ralph Nader has asked for a recount of votes in New Hampshire to investigate problems with the vote. In this state, there was a statistically significant difference between counties that used different types of voting machines.
http://www.invisibleida.com/New_Hampshire.htm
Furthermore, the House Judiciary Committee has asked the GAO to investigate numerous problems with the election process, and provides details:
http://www.house.gov/judiciary_democrats/gaoinvestvote2004ltr11504.pdf

Over the last few days I have read many stories about incidents involving electronic voting, and have reviewed several different statistical analyses. Many of these can be found at Democratic Underground:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/
(See "President Results" and "Report Voting Problems" forums)

Although I donot wish to believe this, I am having serious doubts about the integrity of this election. Please investigate these allegations.

4. Donate to the Recount Effort
Ralph Nader is requesting the New Hampshire recount. To donate to his campaign fund, visit http://www.votenader.org/
We hope to have a website set up in the next few days to accept donations specifically for the recount effort if you don't wish to make a general Nader donation.

5. Stay Tuned
Visit Democratic Underground at:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/
(See forums "Presidential Results" and "Report Voting Problems")

Keep an eye on breaking news -- this story is moving fast --we need people to write, phone, and do all sorts of cyber-activism. We especially need you if you are a number-cruncher!

3. FLY THAT FLAG UPSIDE DOWN - MY BROTHERS IN ARMS

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you’ll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you’ll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I’ve watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There’s so many different worlds
So many differents suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun’s gone to hell
And the moon’s riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it’s written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We’re fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

8. I was asked to post this as a letter from which to take ideas
(fyi-This was written to the Kerry campaign)

We need to have recounts of optical scanned ballots in Ohio and Florida, as well as recounts in any other precinct in swing states where exit polls did not match the results and suspicions have been raised by statisticians who, on their own free time, have analyzed the vote and found likely irregularities.

Lets face it: exit polling is so accurate its been used as a tool to monitor third world nations. It's been spot-on in every American election in every state but twice: in Florida in 2000, where we now know that Gore really did win, and now in a few contested states in 2004. What's more, as someone with formal training in physics, I know that error should be scattered on both sides of the mean -- but every "erroneous" national election exit poll that America has ever seen has always, always fallen on the side of "overestimating" the support of opponents of George W. Bush.

Bluntly: this stinks to high heaven.

John Kerry promised me, as a Kerry donor, volunteer, voter, and citizen, that he would make sure that every vote would be properly counted in this election. I'm calling upon you to deliver on your promise to me and to the tens of millions of us who gave of what we could spare from our paychecks and pension checks and allowances, who stood in lines, in the cold and the rain, of up to 10 hours to cast our votes for John Kerry.

Anything less would mean that, sadly, we had a commander who cut and ran and left his troops alone in battle.

And it would mean that democracy in America had failed -- utterly failed -- and could no longer be relied upon to prevent extremism from keeping its grasp on the reins of power indefinitely. What does that mean? Did you hear of the angry mob that rushed the statehouse in Ohio after the election? Or the mob that tried to burn down a Republican headquarters in NC? Did you know that Canada has had a record number of requests for immigration information? Did you know that PTA moms were passing out black armbands at their meetings, that citizens in many states are seriously talking secession, that I even heard a respected county prosecutor talk quite seriously of revolution.

THIS IS WHAT THE FAILURE OF DEMOCRACY MEANS. And from the look in the eyes of the people in the street, I can tell you it will only get worse.

Please, please: we *must* have honest hand recounts everywhere where
suspicions have been raised.

Sincerely
XXXXXXXXXX

----

It was also pointed out to me that I should also have mentioned an audit of the machines.

22. Done, thanks, and more letter ideas
I personalized mine and pasted the DU letter and links below my own words. I admit some parts may sound a bit radical, but these people have been hearing from me for four years - they're used to it. But damn it I've devoted a good part of my life to this since 2000, and I AM feeling a bit radical and desparate right now! If there's anything here of worth to borrow for personalization, feel free.
------

Most of you know I've been pretty heavily involved in political activism over the past 4 years, and I've bombarded most of you with information emails in the past. Well this is the granddaddy and probably my last unless it is to notify you that we've found safe haven in another country for our daughter. Yes, it's that serious.

Any of you who knew my mom and dad know they were good people with those moral and family values the red states talk about. They taught me right and wrong and to love my country. Well folks, something is very wrong and I'm fighting like mad for that country I used to know. This isn't about Kerry - it's about fair elections.

I'm part of the online activist group that has brought many of the anomalies of this Presidental election to the forefront. We're the "tin-foil-hat" weirdos, the conspiracy theorists that you hear about in most mainstream news reports.

I have researched the modus operandi of these monsters (Bush Inc) in depth, over time. Knowing how easily computers are manipulated, along with the use of typical dirty tricks of Bush's vote-thief-in-chief Karl Rove, I am convinced that voter fraud is responsible for Bush's "election" and "Mandate". Yes, the sheeple bought into the soundbites and fear and voted for him heavily, but not that heavily.

There are many subtle indications of the theft, such as....The timing of the whole Fallujha attack is one of their typical methods to distract the populace and dominate the news when they want other things they're doing to go unnoticed. The GOP is already planning to get rid of those "phony exit polls" that were right on the mark before Florida suddenly changed for Bush in 2000 (pesky things shine a light on the discrepancies). And then there are the strange and sudden changes in some of the election return numbers - flip flops I guess you'd call them. All the "mistakes" and anomalies that have been found favor Bush, and more "mistakes" are found in swing states. Proving it could be the tough part as the computer code is difficult to detect before, during, or after. Hopefully, though, someone will find a way through machine auditing and/or state recounts.

I truly believe this is it for America - the last stand as they say. Bush Inc. has all three branches of government in their greedy little hands because of our corrupted election system. If this most recent theft is not at least investigated to the fullest, that's it folks. There's no sense in voting again if the machine casts the vote for you. You might as well start brushing up on German life in the 30's.

The media is afraid to report much more than the conspiracy theory angle. They prefer to talk about flawed exit polls and internet bloggers causing an unfounded ruckus. So our last stand campaign is to let as many people as we can know what we think is going on and why we're trying to clean up the election system. Below is a letter (a bit tamer and more politically correct than mine) that we've been asked to send along with links to information which were gathered by the Democratic Underground. Things you can do to help the process along are included as well. Everyone I'm sending this to is perfectly capable of making up their own mind. so here you go.

And yes, I am taking my medication.

24. Question
Allowing for the possibility of fraud, why would one assume that identical code was used in NH, and Florida/Ohio?

The code is proprietary, and we don't yet know much about the development, manufacture and delivery streams of these machines.

25. Doesn't have to be identical, but we DO know about some of
the code's provenance.

We know that the Diebold code was built on (from) its predecessor, the ES&S Code.

See, my biggest concern is not so much that it has malicious code within (but it certainly can and probably does) but rather that knowledgeable insiders can gain access to the central tabulators (via modem, of course, or even wireless -- GEMS runs on a Windows PC) and change votes in realtime.

This is interesting, and it's a compiled list of things you must believe for Bush to have won fairly --- --- ---

To believe that Bush won the election, you must also believe: That the exit polls were wrong in the states that decided this election, but somehow were correct, as exit polls have proven to be, in the states that were not going to be in question (like Georgia) on election day; that master pollster John Zogby's 5pm election day calls for Kerry winning Ohio and Florida were wrong (he was exactly right in his 2000 final poll); that polling company, Harris' last-minute polling for Kerry was wrong; that "incumbent rule #1" – undecideds break for the challenger - was wrong; That the "50% rule" – in which an incumbent doesn't do better than his final polling - was wrong; That the "approval rating rule" – an incumbent with less than 50% approval will most likely lose the election – was wrong; that it was just a coincidence that the exit polls were correct where there was a paper trail and incorrect (+5% for Bush!) where there was no paper trail; that the surge in new young voters had no positive effect for Kerry in swing states where youth voting was very high, despite long lines and record youth voting; that Kerry did worse than Gore against an opponent who lost the support of scores of Republican newspapers who were for Bush in 2000 (by a huge circulation victory for Kerry), and even the "Conservative Times" magazine backed Kerry; that the reports of Warren County, in Ohio, who closed their vote counting to outsiders because of a unfounded terror threat (FBI says never told them that, as County officials claimed), did nothing illegal as one of the last counties to be counting votes in Ohio, as Bush gained a few more thousand vote lead over Kerry making it near impossible for the provisional ballots to matter, once counted, that 4,000 extra votes for Bush in a Gahanna precinct, where only 600 votes were on the register, was just a mistake, along with the other mistakes that just happened to go Bush's way, and that voting machines made by Republicans with no paper trail and with no software publication, which have been proven by thousands of computer scientists to be vulnerable in scores of ways, were not tampered with in this election. Even though the CEO of Diebold was even quoted that they were going to do everything they could to "guarantee" a Bush victory in, no less than - you guessed it - OHIO!

34. At this point, DU will not get Kerry into the White House...
...Kerry will get Kerry into the White House. Let him do his thing. Trying to convince people he won before there is enough evidence just makes people size you for a tin foil hat.
