We have lost literally millions of votes on punch cards or other systems over the years. Electronic systems eliminate overvotes and you virtually have to skip a race intentionally for an undervote. The machine prompts you over and again. Then there is a review of your ballot selections at conclusion before casting the vote.
After 2000, people forget the initial evaluation of electronic machines was they would be a boon to Democrats in big urban areas, possibly enough to save elections that would otherwise be lost. Unfortunately, we never had a major election with electronic machines but before 9/11. That day changed party ID in the GOP's favor. DUers are thrilled to overlook that and pretend nothing has changed. Republican GOTV is also dramatically advanced and improved since 2000.
We need paper trails and access to code. In fact, the paper trails should automatically be used to verify machine counts regardless of the outcome, lopsoded or close. But I'm not going to turn my back on a system that should benefit us, not the reverse.
