Are there broader issues?
First off, I am not suggesting that that gay Americans deserve any less than the rights due to every American, nor am I suggesting that we take a gay mairrage plank out of our platform.

I am, however, leery of making it our dominant issue.

We have all sorts of corporate malfeasance, that's affecting millions, literally millions of Americans - is this less important that gay mairrage?

They're undermining public education - which I think is absolutely vital to a free republic (a real one, one that works, as disctinct from our wingnut counterparts). This is another issue that we shaft.

Or, hell, let's get basic. Class issues. Where's the middle class going? Why are the rich getting richer? Why is it harder for me to get a college education? What's happening to our cities?

Aren't these issues that affect a vast, vast majority of Americans? Why aren't these litmus tests? Aren't these just as basic, speaking of terms of human rights, as gay mairrage?
