IRISH anti-war movement plans protest outside US embassy in Dublin

The Irish Anti-War Movement has organised a demonstration outside the US Embassy in Dublin for tomorrow to protest against what looks increasingly like the re-election of George W Bush as US President.

The movement has called on all those who oppose Mr Bush and his policies to gather outside the embassy at 5pm. Announcing the protest today, IAWM chairman Richard Boyd-Barrett said Mr Bush's re-election would lead to an escalation in violence in Iraq and particularly in the rebel-held city of Fallujah.

The US military is preparing an assault to recapture the city ahead of Iraqi elections scheduled for next January and Mr Boyd-Barrett said there was nothing to hold Mr Bush back now that he had secured a second term in the White House. "There is going to be a massacre in Fallujah, possibly in the next few days, certainly in the next few weeks," he said.

"We're going to see a bloodbath. It's not just that the war in Iraq is going to continue, it's going to intensify and escalate so there is as an absolute urgency now to take to the streets.
