Why I think * won't overturn Roe v. Wade...
He has to have something to keep the fundamentalist on his leash. If it's overturned they might start noticing things like....the economy, pollution, lower incomers fighting his wars... you know - the SHIT they don't see now.

1. I think he'll go after the amendments, in order, starting with the first.

3. He will nominate the judges who eventually overturn it.
The actual overturn of Roe v. Wade will be timed carefully. Bush will probably want to get several (all possible) nominees on the court before they do it - so likely that it won't happen until near the end of his term or maybe after the 2008 election. But, the judges to overturn Roe v. Wade and undo affirmative action will be placed on the court during this four year term.

Bush also won't want the Supreme Court to do anything devisive before he gets his major legislation thru, so after Social Security and Tax reform.

This term will be about stacking the court. Once the court is stacked then it's timing - probably after Bush is out of office, especially if a Dem is elected in 2008.

4. why they won't overturn Roe v. Wade
Because Republican men need to procure abortions for their roundheels daughters, floozebag wives, and various whores and bits of stuff on the side.

12. They could procure them before RvW
THEY could afford to send their women to Puerto Rico or Europe. It was the desperate poor women who died of hemorraghing, sepsis, and suicide.

7. If it is perceived that Shrub has the opportunity to overturn R v. W
...and he doesn't do it,the Xtian Right as personified by Pat Robertson will walk and form a third party. I suspect there are those from that far corner of reality who believe they can do it all themselves, anyway.

Shrub getting cold feet when the opportunity to pull the plug on abortion is there will send his Fundie support right out the door.

11. That's it. How frightening.
It makes so much sense but how scary - means that Roe v. Wade is more likely to be overturned, not less, so they have state abortion referendums available as a get out the vote political tool.

9. On the 3rd debate, Bush spoke in code that he was going to overturn Roe
On the 3rd Debate, Bush spoke that he won't put Judges that would have approved of the Dred Scott decision, thus according to one website is a hugely cited case among antiabortionists, thus meaning that He spoke in code to his base that he'd appoint judges that would Overturn Roe vs Wade.

10. Good call
It's like Blair back here with his foxhunting ban. They've been after that for years (his party, that is) but he won't actually give it to them. It's far too useful for that. He just keeps on wheeling it out when he needs them on side.

13. No, he won't overturn Roe V Wade because...

14. You underestimate the fundies
After Roe V. Wade they will still have their attentions on such things as the environment and making sure we gut EVERYTHING out of environmental protection because they believe that enviro protection is slowing down the second coming of Christ. Idiots like Bill Frist firmly believe in this. Sorry to say, but this group isn't just worried about Roe V. Wade, they will have enough issues to occupy their time until they can bring about the end of time and fulfill biblical prophecy.
