I hope Ashcroft is put on the Supreme Court in a recess appt.
I know, we'll all suffer, etc. But I perceive that Bush's true colors are going to come out, so I'd just as soon get it on and get it going.

I want to see the remaining Democrats try to completely block anything remotely-right-wing that is run through the Congress. They'll lose many of these fights, but they'd at least be on the record for trying.

It's apparent after this election that things will have to get much worse before the electorate realizes how screwed they are. So I'd prefer the disintegration of the country starts sooner than later, so that we will have some hope coming out of the ugly back side of the process.

1. It is like the old saying,
You have to hit bottom before you can start climbing back up. Also before people want to change anything, it has to hit them personally.

2. According to Atrios...
the WSJ (subscribers only, so I can't vouch) is claiming it will be Miguel Estrada in a recess appointment.

I figured it would be Alberto Gonzalez, but I guess Bush will get to him later.

Will we EVER be able to recover what is being lost?

3. No such thing as recess appt for the supremes
they need advice and consent of the senate per the Constitution. Inferior court appointment procedures are not covered by the constitution which is why recess appts can be made.

6. I'd wondered about that, but...
as I said above, I couldn't access the WSJ article because it is for subscribers only. I am including the link to Atrios here so if there are WSJ subscribers, they can check.

8. Didn't know that.
Well, it should be easy to run him through the Senate.
