Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) For Democratic Senate Leader

Why?

1. He voted against the Iraq war in 2002 even when up for re-election. That took a huge set of brass ones. The same kind of brass ones we need in our leadership.

2. He's from the Midwest, an area which plays well in national opinion. Most people think of it as middle america, just like them. A minority leader from the Northeast or West Coast would be thought of as "an out of touch coastal liberal".

3. At the same time, he's from heavily Democratic Illinois and is much beloved by the citizens of that state. The state GOP is run by people who, put together, seem to have a collective IQ of about 4. He can speak the party line without any fear of losing his seat, unlike Daschle.

So what can you do?

Start by calling, e-mailing, or writing Durbin encouraging him to run for the leadership.
