Well it seems the 18-30 year olds were too busy
playing stinky finger to actually come out and vote...again.

No change in their turnout from 2000.

Enjoy the fruits of your slackassedness.

4. It seems doubtful that anything to make them line up to vote.
History is what it is.

2. I thought this was already cleared up
But since you seemed to have missed it, here's a little remediation:

Hint: It's not the under 30 crowds fault.

They did the same thing to Howard Dean

10. wrong, they increased
the percentage is the same, but in actual numbers they increased their turnout and went mostly for Kerry.

other age groups increased turnout also which is why the percentage is the same.

11. The highest? How about the ONLY age group voting Kerry
Many DUers have sure picked an odd target for their ire -- the age group that came through for them.

It's the same with income level -- the under $50k group is the only income bracket that went Kerry, yet there's all kinds of people blaming the workers for voting values of economics.

13. That's why the future is bright if we hang in there
... when these kids get older and more of them vote we will truly be the "emerging democratic majority" at the polls.

And PS, people are pissed at them anyway because so many more were available than turned out. Yeah, lots of them did, but lots of them didn't too. I still appreciate that it is our most supportive demographic by age group though.

18. If you told in me in 1974 that
my generation would grow up and turn into a buch of Republicans, I'd say you were fucking crazy.

This is the same message I've heard for 30 years, and it hasn't happened.

21. that's true. for some reason, getting older, married and having kids turns
people Republican...

maybe we SHOULD try to destroy marriage...

7. there was INCREASE turnout of that age group and Kerry won most
of it. the percentage was the same as last time because the other age groups increased their numbers also. but in terms of actual people voting , it did increase.

14. There was a 1% increase, right?
What was the actual precentage turnout of the group as a whole? Not great. Still slacking. They vote the right way overall, but not enough of them showed up. We needed more than a 1% increase.

17. No, there was increase in Youth numbers not percent...
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 03:38 AM by sonicx
But the rest of the country had an increase in the number that turned out as well. That's why the % of the Youth vote stayed the same.

and again...why are people ignoring the fact that Kerry lost all the other age groups...including seniors???

15. I have the same story to relate
Interestingly enough I began chatting with this young lady 3 years ago on line. We have been sort of on line friends since then. I saw her graduate high school to seeing her in her sophomore year of college. I have implored her to vote throughout the entire campaign and tried to get across what was at stake for us all now and more specifically what it will mean for her future. We talked yesterday and she asked my if I voted. I said "your damned right." I responded what about you. Well she said she had gotten too wrapped up with term papers and tests and stuff like that to vote. Need I say more?

16. You can say that about ANY group
If ANYONE had gotten more of their age group to the polls for Kerry, we would have won. This is just blantant scapegoating by the older crowd here on DU. I'm getting fucking sick of it. I'm sorry you all thought there was going to be an army of 18 year olds marching to the polls like in the Eminem video, but that NEVER happens. Never.

19. Yeah you need to say more
Explain why the 18-29 age group increased their numbers from 2000 and voted overwhelmingly for Kerry. It's MY generation...the greedy, selfish GenXers who fucked us all over.
