I Hate My State! It's So Red!
Nebraska, red since 64. Time to move 100 miles East to Iowa? Next Presidential election I'll be in a swing state. Do you hate your state too?

1. Yes. I feel like moving. But I'm going to start getting more involved
and do what I can to stop the madness that is running rampant in the red states. I'm feeling more energized by the minute. Anger is a powerful driving force.

2. Im in CO....
upset we went red (well...I just found out the jury's still out on that one).

But we passed quite a few progressive initiatives...AND we sent the Salazar brothers to Washington...AND we won back our state congress...essentially making Owens useless for the next two years.

It looks like we are slowly moving toward blue. But we've known this for the last 8 years...we've just been getting so many progressive transplants from the coasts.

Move here...we could use you.

BTW...we've decided we need to start breeding. It'll counter the religious theme of "breeding like rabbits".

I think our slogan should be "Drop one for the Dems". Whadya think? Too crass?

4. CO IS NOT OVER YET!
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 03:31 AM by pabloseb
Only 33% of Boulder has reported. Extrapolating current data, Kerry would win by the slimmest of margins.

This would not change the outcome (except in the extremely unlikely case that abstenee ballots hand Kerry victories in NM and IA), but it sure would be nice to win another red state.

3. I live in Texas...
I'll let you draw your own conclusion.

To my county's credit, we went for Kerry. Even so, living in a "red state" sucks, big time.

7. Instead of moving
Contact the party on the state level and help them start organizing candidate recruitment and hammering out a message that will appeal to the people of Nebraska. I'll bet many Nebraskans are unaware how Bush's policies are having a negative effect on their lives.

Set up a biweekly roundtable with likeminded individuals to create your own Nebraskan think tank on ways to reach out to the GOP voters, find common ground with them and build on it.

11. The point of this thread is for those having their states made fun of
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:27 AM by norml
,and how frustrating it can be,yet nobody mentions Nebraska, just the South. The problem is with all of the solidly red states. Sometimes I find myself hating the South, yet my state is solidly red. It's always too easy to make fun of "those people" and not "these people". Don't let regionalism blind you to the truth.

20. I'm in INDIANA, norml.
How much more non-stereotypically NOT-SOUTH can you get than THAT?

Yeah, it's a sobering thought, knowing that 3 out of every 4 people you see is PERFECTLY OK with their sons being sent to die in the ME, just as long as they don't have to marry a man before they go...

stupid fucking rednecks. I'm surrounded by moronity...

It's REALLY getting to me. I'm giving serious consideration to relocating to either New Mexico or Iowa.

13. Gerogia Here...let's do what we can to make Red Purple...
Sure we can just move someplace else, but are you really going to let a bunch of narrowminded idiots push you out and steal your land?

come on now - despite popular opinion, liberals ain't pussies.

let's organize, do the grassroots thing, and start pushing back. In the red states most of all. We need to start being represented and push the loonies back.

If you're interested in the cause, PM me and we can start organizing.

15. Those red states sound awfully scary
But, in all them it appears that at least one out of every three people voted Democratic. That's a pretty good starting point. Haven't there been populist leaders in your red state? What did they do that worked? Evan Bayh in Indiana is a Democrat, and I don't think he's rightwing. I think it is possible for a Democrat, even a liberal populist, to win a red state; they just have to have a set of beliefs and a message that resonates. If you red staters are going to stay where you are, I hope you figure out how we can get a progressive message across in a way that appeals to the people of your state. Does someone like Jim Hightower have some appeal?

16. I live in a RED part of a BLUE state. So I might as well live in red state
... Lancaster County, PA. Ewwww! SO Repug. But the Democrats rose up like crazy this year -- really vocal and visible -- I don't think we'll ever be silenced again. We won't be intimidated by neighbors who call up and scream about Democratic signs in the yard. We won't be made to feel like second-class citizens ANYMORE.

18. You know what you need to do?
Take a look at the final vote tally for your state. You will see, even as I did, deep in the heart of Repug South Carolina, that there were hundreds of thousands of others in my state who shared my belief in John Kerry and the Democratic party. We are not alone, even in the midst of the all the Red we see on the map. 55 million people DID NOT vote for the Chimp. Remember that.
