This is just a continuation of the Civil War. The south can't get
over having their negro slaves taken away and their women wearing shoes. Don't flame me, I'm southern born and southern bred and I know what I'm talking about. People here have substituted their old fear of black people on gay people, which of course doesn't mean that they still don't hate black people, too. There's enough hate in their hearts to go around.
Sorry, I don't mean to stereotype my own people, but I just visited my hometown in east tennessee and people were VERY upset about the gay issue. Seems that the christian right has been sending out brochures and stuff since last January to get people all lathered up in time for the election.

1. I know what you are talking about
I grew up in Alabama and now live in Florida. The Republicans tend to be white Christians who are overtly-racist and xenophobic.

3. And don't forget the "libruls want to outlaw the Bible" stuff
It's easy to see how the Republican leadership can hold the masses in such contempt. They fall for everything they put out there.

4. its not just
the 'old confederacy' but it is the whole great plains region that went republican. ohio which was a 'free state' went republican.

Utah which was oppressed for religious reasons by republican administrations years ago, votes republican year after year.
if it was just the old 'slave states' who were still angry, the democrats would win year after year.

it goes beyond the old confederate states.
