Fuck you, America. I can't believe that as patriotic a person as myself is saying that, but it's the only thing that feels right. I had faith in your judgement, I believed in our shared ideals, and I was certain that those maniacs who supported the mad NeoCon agenda were in the minority. I honestly thought I could viscerally feel the momentum toward the restoration of a rational, civil nation.
You let me down. In a way I might not easily recover from. I feel betrayed. John Kerry, I was never a greater supporter of yours than last night when you declined to concede. I thought for certain you would take the time to employ all those attornies to look into the allegations of electoral fraud, that you would fight for us. I was mistaken. You rolled over exactly the way you said you wouldn't.
I live in Canada, and not because I moved away to avoid a political fight. I immigrated in the summer of 2000, and I've been very comfortable here. But this afternoon, I went to Immigration Canada and picked up an application for Canadian citizenship, which I am fortunately eligible for right away. I had always said I would never renounce my US citizenship, but now that is in question. I will wait for a while, cool off, see how the next few years go, and then decide. I can be safe here with my family, at least in the short term, and I've decided to adopt it as my permanent home, never to return.
He's all yours, Americans. He's not my president. You can fucking have him. I hope you all get what you have coming to you, and that soon. If your job gets shipped overseas and Bush undermines or eliminates Unemployment Insurance, Welfare, and Social Security, then just go to your Church and seek assistance. If they tell you that they can't help because people are losing their jobs and the coffers are low, then move to fucking China for all I care and get a job there.
If things get bad here, then I suppose my next move will be to Europe for the safety of my family. Perhaps Australia or New Zealand, far out of the way and beneath the notice of the menace in the White House. I thought America was worth fighting for, that another Revolution might be in the offing to defend democracy against the assault of tyrrany. Nope, just more of the same: roll over and take it with a smile.
Benjamin Franklin, when asked what kind of government he and the Founders had instituted, is reported to have replied, "a republic, if you can keep it." I can't see that there's anything American left to fight for. Whatever there is in the void of post-America, keep it. I want no part of it.
