we lost the south because of the overwhelming bigotry here
no ifs ands or buts

with the exception of the cities (atlanta and miami), the south is still in 1955, full of rednecks that still believe in god

we have to attack the basis for their ignorance, which is their religion

we have to work hard in this country so that anyone that expresses belief in a magic man in the sky is immediately marginalized and made inneffectual

the only other alternative is to become them, join the borg, be the clueless theocrats that they are

i just cant stomach that option, so lets start killing off religion NOW!

11. You're being an idiot
don't post until you calm down...

Because I think it's stupid to persecute someone because of a personal belief I am now 'one of them'?

Ha! You're a fucking nazi.... go chill out and get rational.

12. I agree it's fine to have faith but this is something else.
When Christ is used as a political weapon it's no longer Christian.

17. Do you believe god chose W?
Then I think you are safe. If you want to use Jesus as a weapon to wage a political and culture war you best be ready to defend that religion.

7. And you wonder why they don't vote Democratic?
It's exactly this kind generalized condemnation of religion that has turned off so many voters. Blaming religion for bigotry completely obliterates the vast differences between different faiths, not to mention denominations.

I have no desire to end all religion, but I do have a bone to pick with the particular narrow-minded brand of religion promoted by Fundies. It's a creed that ignores much of Christ's teachings, while claiming to revere him above all else. They're sick MFs who are using religion to support their own bigotries; religion is not the cause of their hatred, just the smokescreen they use.

20. Go fuck yourself, drdigi420
You DON'T describe "most" Christians when you talk about the narrow minded ones. You describe the most vocal among them -- the Religious Right.

You say you want us to reach these people, and you espouse divisive trash like this?

Go piss up a rope, dickwad.

8. Funny, I think we lost because of bigotry in the south?
Must be DU. Not the institutionalized racism and homophodia in the red states. After all we know that DU is widely read by conservative southerners.

Thanks for clearing that up. lol.

I agree, a dirrect attack on those "values" is the highest priority.

15. Most Dems believe in God
Christian principles of caring for the poor and sick and promoting peace are consistent with the Democratic party.

21. True but we don't often wrap our policy in Jesus.
Especially policy that is fundamentally un christian.

If you are a true Chrsitain I recomend taking this fight where it belongs, with the people who are discrediting your faith by using it for cover for bigotry.

What the original poster is talking about is a very real problem. YOU PEOPLE above all must fight this, not attack a person who acknowledges the sad reality.

19. That's the lesson I've taken from this too
I no longer will take any Christian seriously. They have a self-imposed and curable brain disease that they simply need to cure.
