What should the Democratic Party do - a third alternative
I think that we lost in the churches. I live in east Broward county, the most liberal part of the most liberal county in Florida and I stood in line next to an idiot who was voting on social values. (She felt very virtuous, BTW.)

I listened to her for about an hour and a half. Turns out she was a Catholic, who felt the church wasn't aggressive enough in telling the parishioners to vote for Bush. A nearby evangelical church was very explicit. My companion was unimpressed with the Catholic clergy. Really bummed!

If Democrats want to start winning again, they need to go into the churches ... on a pew by pew basis ... and explain to the holy rollers how the Republican party is promoting social values to get a pass on laws that benefit the wealthy. The religious need to understand that they are being suckered. And how the Democratic party is protecting their financial interests.

And the Democrats need take a long hard look at their social agenda and determine what they need to "drop" in order to not offend this group too much.
