2. Which states could possibly secede?
New York and California have Republican governors. Even MA has a Republican governor. The only possible state that could do it is Illinois and we are land locked.

8. California!
If we could get 10-15 million liberals to move here, we could do it. It's in the California constitution. We could run the Governator out and crush the U.S. economy.

We are ONE NATION. If you lose it at the ballot box you pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, figure out where you went wrong, and move on.

Secession talk is just whacked out sore losing.

16. Agreed....
Cripes, there work to do and people are playing fantasy land where everyone in their "new" country thinks alike. It doesn't matter where you live its likely that 40%+ disagree with you. That makes secession a very very messy proposition at best.

19. It's either seccession or revolution, Walt
Because 4 more years of this shit is simply unacceptable. Even if there WAS a 2008 election, and it was 100% legit (a Huge IF right now) and we had a kickass ticket like Dean/Obama, could they even begin to undo 8 years of damage from the Bush Criminal Empire.

I hate to say it, but I think America as we knew it is officially dead and a reconcilliation with the brainwashed sheepfuckers in the "red" states isn't possible.

17. Go back to a confederation- States primary over federal government
Blue states can have legal abortion, civil unions, etc and the reds can have their theocracy. Blue states can spend their higher incomes on progressive reforms at home, instead of federal tax dollars being sent to red states impverished by willfull ignorance. States could even individually choose whether to support military actions.

22. Blue states unite!
DH & I have been discussing this for awhile.

This morning we were talking about what we can actually do. We have no conventional power-all branches of government are continuing under their control which they will further solidify.

As a MA resident who lives on the MA, VT, NY border I am in the heart of blue. The intellectual and economic power of this country is essentially concentrated in blus states and now we will continue to be ruled by TOM DELAY & CO. Sorry, this is not right-this makes me want a new american revolution or something else like secession.

We talked about the need to create distress for those in power. I don't think they care about marches and protests-millions of people doing that around the world had no effect on the war-so it has to be something that actually affects them. I don't know how seriously a secessionist discussion can be. All I know is the blue states wield a huge amoount of intellectual and economic power and we are being completely shut out of this government.

23. For the record; bad idea. Secession = Civil War, folks.
There's enough people in this world who want to kill Americans. I can think of exactly zero legitimate reasons for us to start killing each other.

24. Two secession's
The northeast and mid-west, New England, NY, NJ, PA, MD, DC (let them build their own f'in capitol!), DE, MI, WI, IL, IA and MN. It would be great if we could pull in OH and IN as well somehow, but they may need to join us later.

And then all three West coast states, CA, OR, WA plus Hawaii.

The two new countries could be close allies with open trade and mutual defense agreements, perhaps with Canada as well (that would give us a land route for shipping goods).

And fuck new names. I'm sorry, I grew up in and around Boston. As the majority of the original colonies and the seats of liberty, we get the option to keep USA, or a varient.

Give Puerto Rico the option to join as a full state as well!

Secession as a politcal alternative was tried 1861-5, it didn't work and 600,000 died. Try working, really working, for the election of progressive candidates.

38. Why make a new country when a perfect place exists?
Why go through the strife and strugle when we could move to Paris? In Paris they already have a great political system, the food is great, and they would be glad to have us! I have been told by many Parisian friends of mine that I should move there as soon as possible, I think I am going to take them up on the offer.
