24 year old son's Birthday today - "Mom, I am older and oppressed"

You see, he is gay, he voted, and I was hoping that on his birthday, he would get the gift of protection and gurantee of his rights by our United States of America.

He lives in Ohio, they just told him he was garbage and a second class citizen, and he has no rights as a citizen protected by HIS country and state constitution. They will not recognize him as a fellow human being, until they want him for a draft, where they will disallow "don't ask, don't tell," because they would rather see him dead. And now our federal government will step in where the State of Ohio stopped to finish him off.

I asked him where in the world he wanted to move, we told him we would send him anywhere. He told me he would be OK, he is not going anywhere just yet, and he made a "mom will feel better if I make a joke" maneuver.

I just pulled over to the side of the road and bawled when I hung up with him.

I am sorry, I just hate this country right now. I was an Election Protection volunteer, and there is NO WAY, after starting at 0530 hours yesterday morning until watching the last voter vote in the last precinct I was in at 0200 THIS morning, with lines hundreds of people deep in blistering rain ALL day and brutal 5-8 hours waiting times and NO parking and NO curbside voting for the disabled...

WHERE ARE THE VOTES OF THOSE MILLIONS OF TURN OUT VOTERS??? WHERE?? I SAW THEM ALL REFUSE to step out of line, collapse in front of the doors on the union hall after waiting 6 hours to vote in the cold rain, GET BACK IN LINE after waiting 4 hours in the wrong line only to be told they are in the wrong precinct line for ANOTHER 4 hours wait. I LISTENED to these THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of first time one once in a while voters talk and they HATED Bush! Provisional voters were ARMED with their previous precinct card, their ID and a utility bill with their new address so they could vote provisionally. I helped thousands of provisional voters, and they all had the right ammo to prove they could vote in the precinct they lined up for. Nearly the entire student body at Ohio State had to vote provisionally. Students at Kenyon College waited until 0400 hours THIS MORNING...MORE THAN 9 HOURS...to vote provisionally.

Since our party won't count every vote, they are as guilty as the Republicans as to the direction of this country. I hold them AS RESPONSIBLE for the fascist state we will become.
