Occam's Razor people.....conspiracy theories don't cut it.
I know people want to believe that it's not possible we lost without cheating or Diebold, but consider this: Touchscreen voting was barely on the map in 1994 when we lost control of Congress.

I won't rule out the possibility of fraud, but there is a much simpler and much more insidious explanation for what happened.

The simplest explanation is this: The same socio-pathology that infected Germany in the 30's has infected America.

We have an overblown opinion of ourselves. We scapegoat the poor and minorities. We have propogandists and a ruling class that is feeding the masses what they want to hear. We have a military/industrial complex. We have the merging of politics and religion. We have disdain for intellectualism and human rights.

It's been simmering under this country since WW2. As long as we had the counterbalance of the USSR it was never allowed to get out of hand. Once that was gone, we found ourselves without direction and without a true enemy. That energy has now been utilized and directed in the most bastardized way imaginable.

By focusing our energies on Diebold as the root cause of all our problems we are looking for a magic bullet to fix it and I honestly believe that ain't gonna happen.

And for those that want to argue that we were somehow robbed by these machines, let me ask you this: Do you honestly believe that the sheer get out the vote HATRED for gay Americans like myself and overwhelming support for the suppression of equality for gay Americans came about because of touchscreen voting?

Thanks to this 'election' we must now all brace for the fall, not just the ones who are directly responsible for it.

8. That has been my concern all along.
If I were Europe, e.g., I would start planning ways to crush the growing threat from fascist America.

7. It would be nice, but let's not fall into the "magic bullet" trap....
...there is something deeper and more serious than Diebold at work here.

I honestly believe that people who focus so hard on BBV are looking for a simple explanation to a complex problem.

5. I agree
Every ballot in a swing state had some Christian measure or other on it. A hate has taken over the country and we need to face it.

9. Or we could just let it happen
I'd personally love to see the faces of all the so-called Christians who are not taken up to heaven if there was a rapture.

It would be priceless to see the faces of Bush, Falwell, Robertson, Swaggert, etc. as they are left behind.

15. Rove planned it that way
He made sure those initiatives were on the ballots in those states. And it worked like a charm.

10. no, you're wrong..
they don't need touchscreen voting to fix an election. All they need to do is fix the vote tabulators. Touchscreens just make it easier since there's no way to prove they changed the results.

12. The tabulators didn't pass homophobic measures in 11 states...
...including blue ones.

11. I think it some of both/all
"The same socio-pathology that infected Germany in the 30's has infected America."

It's what drove my old "friends" to vote Republican and it's what drives Rove and the Diebold people to do what they do. And CNN to change the exit polls at 1:41 am.

The thing is - Rove and Diebold and CNN are what feeds the voters perceptions.

Those who get their news from alternate sources are considered whacko - lunatic - fringe people. (That would be us).

14. Exactly...we ALL know decent people who have really fucked up views...
...of everything.

Look at how many people here have talked about friends they lost and relations strained over bigotry and closedmindedness.

As I said, I won't discount the possibility of BBV, but in the final analysis I think our problems will not be so easily fixed. There is a sickness that has invaded our country and we ignore that in search of simple answers at our own peril.

To me, the focus on BBV is like taking a tums for stomach upset when the real problem is cancer.

13.  There was no momentum for Bush this time like there was in '94
or even in 2000. Republicans were against Bush. The military was muffled and against Bush. And of course we were against Bush and we got the vote out. So it is hard for me to believe he won fair and square.
