Reality Bites, and What We Do Now.
I'm not mad at John Kerry. I don't think he failed us.

To me, this election means that 51% of this country has a fundamentally different view of reality than I do. Gay bashing apparently works. A majority of people in this country apparently believe that "moral" values mean what goes on in the bedroom and nothing else. A majority are OK with torturing people in Iraq. A majority are OK with invading countries without pretext or true cause. A majority support privatizing Social Security. A majority support overturning Roe v Wade. A majority support replacing the income tax with a national sales tax or flat tax. A majority oppose affordable health care. A majority can't distinguish between the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 and the general Arab population in the Middle East. A majority support a Cult of Personality around a spoiled frat boy who never worked a day in his life. It's the only possible conclusion, because that is what the majority voted for last night.

What to do now? On a macro basis, Democrats and the left need to stay organized and motivated. Bush's policies will bring disaster to this country and we need to be prepared to take advantage of that in 2006 and 2008. On a personal basis, Democrats need to work as hard as they can and save as much money as they can, to protect their families from the coming calamities.

I'm sad and depressed. But I'm secure in the knowledge that I made the right decision with MY vote. I just hope that I'm able to protect my family from the coming disasters brought on by the 51%.

1. I've been practicing it, and I expect to say it a lot the next four years:
"I'd rather be on the right side of history than on the winning side in an election."

2. Boycotts.
We have a real opportunity to develop an effective boycott organization(s) out of the Kerry supporters.

3. We have to re-evaluate...
...and figure out why so many people are willing to vote against their own interests, and would rather have a son die in war than a neighbor butt fucking.

I think we need to become an opposition party, a group whose only purpose is thwarting, slowing down and undermining the GOP agenda in any way we can, so there's enough of a country left when America wakes up to salvage.
