Skinner was right
We should never have posted those damn "exit polls" on DU today. While, so far, no states have switched--the exit polls which showed big wins for Kerry in NH and Pa and MN, WI, Oh, and Fl--caused great elation which I think has led to dampening my spirits a bit tonight, even though, as yet, Bush has won only states he was expected to. I also felt that with the big voter turnout it would for sure be a landslide for Kerry.

It's going to be a long night, but hopefully by morning we will have President elect Kerry. If not, I grieve for my country.

2. People were emailing me those early exit polls.
So I don't think I could have missed them if I tried. And we haven't lost any of those states, so I am still hoping for the best.

4. I disagree. Storngly.
Information is just information. The solution to misusing it is not censoring it.

5. That's not entirely true.
The fact that Florida seems to be slipping through our hands by a wide margin isn't helping things. That and the fact that Nader is still getting votes, that rat bastard.

7. I still believe...
but seeing and believing are two different things...I did get a bit up before. But I haven't fallen, just come back to reality. I still believe!

8. Thursday at soonest
We won't know any sooner unless someone plugs *, and I'm not suggesting that. Too many absentee ballots out in various states.

10. Strangely, exit polls have been very
accurate throughout their history. Suddenly in 2000 they became unreliable and still are. Anyone have any ideas why? (That was sarcasm, in case you didn't realize it.)

11. I posted a warning thread regarding early numbers last night
In 2002 they were way off, invariably more favorable to Democrats than the eventual vote total. We can't blame that on Diebold because it happened all over the country, similar to tonight.

VNS was an excellent service with a lonstanding record of accuracy. They bailed out after the 2000 Florida episode, when they were correct but the overvotes/undervotes altered the result.

I have no faith in AP exit polls. Not in bias. They may not have an accurate model for each state. Exit polls are no different than pre-election polls -- you don't ask everyone but you need a representative sample and that takes experience and know how.

Mostly, regardless of the outcome, it's obvious we underestimated Republican interest and GOTV, which is what I warned about all year.

12. It wasn't the exit polls, we all felt something positive happening.
The exit polls just confirmed what we already felt. Also I think we really became attached on an emotional level to John & Teresa Kerry, and John & Elizabeth Edwards.
