A 20 something A/C worker blew my mind today
He shows up, looking to me like a typical Bush supporting construction worker to fix my A/C and hears me on the phone calling people to get out and vote.

So he says, "I hope you don't mind, I overheard you calling people and I just wanted to say how much I like Kerry and voted for him this week." Then he proceeds to tell me that he feels proud to be part of this election, that he witnessed people in his sphere of connections huddled around tv sets watching the debates that he talks to construction workers all the time about the elections and he said that they want change. They are freaked out by what has been happening in this country and have registered to vote Kerry.

He also said that many of his friends have already voted for Kerry and he will be calling more of them tonight to get them to the polls.

I gotta stop sterotyping people.

1. Yeah, you DO need to stop stereotyping people!
... a typical Bush supporting construction worker...

That's a terrible statement to make. Especially when most construction trades historically have supported Democrats (except the Carpenters, but they can go f*** themselves!).

Most construction workers in FL are of the republican kind. Or at least they were.

5. I thought by A/C you meant Aircraft Worker..
Which btw reminds me that every single airtraffic control officer I know of is voting for Kerry.

They can't stand that Bush has cut airtraffic controllers to the bare minimum.

Hard to believe it wasn't much of an issue during the campaign.

;) Sorry for inserting this thought into the "construction worker" post..

6. I had my "Gotta stop sterotyping people" moment of truth
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 03:02 PM by rocknation
while driving to a Bon Jovi concert.

I noticed that there were lot of bikers on the road, and I figured they were on their way to a biker event somewhere in New Jersey. Much to my surprise, they pulled into the Giants Stadium parking lot right along with me, LOL!

8. I go to NASCAR races and listen to country music
and I'm the biggest, loudest, most obnoxious, conservative ass kicking LIBERAL south of the Mason Dixon Line. Many of my beer drinking acquaintances don't even broach the subject of politics or george dubya bush when I'm within ear shot. Yeah, its not nice to stereotype.

11. I am guilty of stereotyping too - I worked early voting polls on Friday
passing out leaflets with Dem candidates. A young hip looking guy dressed in waiter garb approached and I just knew he was a liberal. When I offered him a leaflet he refused and said he was voting straight repub. That floored me and made me quit trying to sum people up for the rest of the day!

12. Yeah the neighbor whose dog took a dump on my Kerry sign
and made a kind of off-handed remark, "I don't think my dog likes your sign" caught me in the alley on Sat. and said I'll be working with you at the polls (I also saw her K/E sign on car)

Here I thought she was a Bushwhacker. :)

I live in the south and I tend to think of the grizzled "redneck" types as republicans... but a lot of 'em are union men.... I no longer judge a book by its cover, for sure! :D

16. Three guys dropped off three cords of firewood here today
All are voting. And their truck had a K/E bumpersticker. I tipped them five bucks, told 'em to get themselves a beer and to get some friends to the polls tomorrow.
John
Oh, yeah -- the wood was originally slated to head to a Repub up in Midland. So I bought the whole load. Let him freeze his ass off.

20. I hope you told them to vote BEFORE they bought the beer. Can't
be too careful. We Democrats sometimes get so carried away "striking a blow for liberty" (Harry S. Truman's term for imbibing) that we forget our civic duty to defeat Republicans.
