I need a snappy but factual rebuttal or reply ...
Got this from a relative - and although there's no chance me changing their mind about voting for *, I need a snappy reply (other than "Fuck off Kool-Aid Boy) to the following - which is probably irrelevant at this point. This is my last chance to get a last-second dope slap in one of my freeper family members. Comments on the following (that I can freely plagiarize)?

Thanks.

2. Not snappy, but factual...

1. What exactly does John Kerry have to do with the management or operation of any of those businesses? Nothing. Teresa Heinz Kerry? Nothing. She runs the Heinz charitable foundation, and I believe has a very small ownership stake, which she inherited, in a few businesses.

2. Heinz is primarily a food company. Food is best produced locally and sold locally. The fact that Heinz has international locations implies nothing about the loss of American jobs, because local workers are producing goods resold to local buyers. In fact, there may be some American management who are employed here, because of the international operations.

on edit--here's the link Lynn was seeking:

3. Kerry has no control over the Heinz business and neither does
his wife.

How about all the oil connections for the Bush family with the Saudis?

Advise relative to check Urban Legends before said rellie emails total bullshit around, making said rellie look like total idiotic fool. :)

Claim: Senator John Kerry's wife owns Heinz, a company that outsources much of its work abroad.

Status: False.

9. Simple, snappy, and sassy.
"What, this again? Sigh... I see you've never heard of www.snopes.com. You should check it out. It debunks Urban Legends. There are no knife-wielding maniacs hiding under you car, Bill Gates will NOT pay you to forward e-mails, and Teresa does not control Heinz Corp."

It is all debunked at snopes, and I find this response to be among my favorites. In addition, you might mention that in all those countries, the products Heinz makes is actually sold SOLEY in those countries. They are not made there, then sent here.

Good luck - the freepers are vicious and wicked today.

10. It's time to stop slapping freepers
Might make you feel good, but it's not doing a damn thing to help us win the election. Are you volunteering on election day? Call you local party headquarters and offer some of your time.

12. Local distributors, etc.
I'd say "big deal"! That list is probably just a long list of local distributors for Heinz products. That's not outsourcing at all, that's just expanding overseas markets for American products.

Some of the companies listed might also be local manufacturers that supply local markets (those in Ireland are listed specifically that way). Again, that's not "outsourcing".

While I don't have any specific data on what kind of business relationship with Heinz each one of those companies listed has, tell your relative the burden of proof is on him/her if he/she thinks this is so alarming. Ask him/her if he/she can show how this list demonstrates outsourcing.

Besides, even if there was any substance here, and I don't think there is, I thought THK didn't have much to do with how things are run at Heinz. Can anyone verify this?

13. She married into the Hienz Family
Her husband was a republican Senator from PA...

She married Kerry

She is now a democrat...

All that stuff about the hienz companies happened when her first husband, a republican, was alive...

She is retired and handles the foundation.......

14. John Heinz was a Republican.....
and not only does Teresa no longer have a contolling interest this company, she had little or nothing to do with its growth and acquisitions.

So if your friend finds the H.J. Heinz Company to be sleazy, it is probably for the most part due to its Republican roots. :-)

15. How about the fact....
Teresa Heinz family hasn't had a thing to do with the management of Heinz Corporation since at least 1995:

http://www.heinz.com/jsp/nonpartisan.jsp

Also, Heinz itself has donated nearly double the money to Republicans than Democrats over the past 7 years.

Finally, the CEO, William R. Johnson the one who made the decisions to open facilities overseas, is a major Republican donor.

So blame a Republican for the ills complained about in your e-mail.
