To the original DUers, thank you.
Tomorrow night's victory is for you.

I joined DU in October 2003. This post is not for me, or any one of the thousands who have joined since me. This post is for the original DUers, the so-called "Ten Percenters." As much as tomorrow night is for us all, you guys should be very proud indeed. Without you, this election would have made 1988 look close.

Were it not for you, the Democratic Party would cease to exist, as we would all have simply agreed with Bush Co., too scared to disagree with the man with the megaphone.

So thank you, from the bottom of this college kid's heart.

Thanks for whipping the rest of the population in shape. Thanks for pointing out the failures of this administration when dissent was unpatriotic. Thanks for marching in 2003 to protest an unlawful and unwarranted invasion when everyone else was cheering the bombs. Thanks for keeping the issue of voter disenfranchisement to the forefront when everyone else was sweeping it under the rug. Thanks for highlighting how inept Bush is domestically, with massive giveaways and a corporate-first policy. Thanks for fighting back against a negligent media and millions of dittoheads. Thanks for giving the party back its spine, its soul and its heart.

Thank you all, all you old timers, too numerous to name.

Tomorrow night is for you.

1. Yes,
thanks so much to the original 10%ers. I recently found the site, and feel right at home. Thanks so much for promoting a web based community for sanity (or insanity, depending on mood ;))

4. Many, many, MANY thanks!
I tell all my friends to come to this site. We are deeply in your debt. You, and this entire community have kept me sane through a rough year(my dem to the core father passed away in August and loved hearing about DU)

You have caused an addiction- as evidenced by a post at 5:45am

18. Yes, it's the sanity that has been so helpful...
I can't believe the shot we have after everything has gone like such a bad episode of the twilight zone.

We are going to win this thing! When we do win a big part of the credit needs to go to a nexus of ideas and places on the internet that spawned them. DU has served as a thinktank for subversive and not so subsersive Democratic ideas over the past 4 years. Things Kerry says today were unthinkable by any of us but the 10%ers after 9/11.

I think I can smell victory from here.

to mind, as I marvel at the youth of the DU Admins who started this board and the MOVEON people. The intensity, energy and smarts of these dedicated young people is making all the difference. There are no words to thank them for all they are doing.

had to wait until I had my own PC (did not want to use my work computer). I do feel like one of the originals and since I have hated Bush since '94 being an "original" may have more than one meaning. I cannot imagine what my life would have been like the past almost four years without my DU friends. I've said it many times - the men in white coats would have taken me away.

And may I add a special thank you to all you young DUers - you give me hope, you really do.

I know there has been a suggestion that a seperate forum be set up for the old-timers tommorow night because of the things you all shared. I hope that if that does comes to pass, that you spend as much time as possible here at DU, where your memories and insight will be valuable to us all.

I was so glad when I found this place. It feels like a refuge, one of the last places I feel truly able to speak my mind, like...home. Thank you for making this the place it is.

Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 07:57 AM by BROCockY
I remember feeling depressed at how Dem Party was doing back then. I was in search of some folks like myself so I could vent my frustration. I thought the whole world went mad and couldn't believe what this country was turning into.

I know my post count is low but that is due to having been in the military and being deployed overseas twice in the last 3 years. If you click on my profile you'll see how long I've been a member.

I'm just amazed at how this site grew with each year.

25. YES - THANK YOU
As a newbie here, I'm so glad I found you DU.
Thank you so much for all your paasion and effort.
I hope we're all here to help President Kerry in his mission.
Tomorrow will be the first step towards bringing the country
back towards sensiblity and righteousness.
All these efforts... economy, education, environment,
terrorism, etc... will demand our continued activism.
And I do hope that our efforts help dismantle
right wing facist policy, the media cabal, and
the evil roots of evangelical extremism. Phew.
Yes there's lots to do.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PULLING US TOGETHER !!

27. I got on officially in Feb 2001
(I was on in another name in the very beginning and yet another name until two years ago! I work somewhere where being on DU at all would be "a problem...")

It saved my life---even during the frenzy of "patriotism" here after Sept 11th. I put "patriotism" in quotes as I don't thinks that was what it really was, but, hey, "water under the bridge"

I never would have believed that we would get this big or make this much difference. I was hoping for a sympathetic community of like-minded liberals, I found so much more. Thank you all.

28. Thank you, thank you ... now there's just one thing left to do ...
Take The Power Back
Rage Against the Machine

In the right light, study becomes insight
But the system that dissed us
Teaches us to read and write

So-called facts are fraud
They want us to allege and pledge
And bow down to their God
Lost the culture, the culture lost
Spun our minds and through time
Ignorance has taken over
We gotta take the power back
Bam, Here's the plan
Mother fuck Uncle Sam
Step back, I know who I am
Raise up your ear, I'll drop the style and clear
It's the beast and lyrics they fear
The rage is relentless
We need a movement with quickness
You are the witness of change
And to counteract
We gotta take the power back

Chorus:
We gotta take the power back
We gotta take the power back

The president curriculums
I put my fist in 'em
Eurocentric every last one of 'em
See right through the red, white and blue disguise
With lecture, I puncture the structure of lies
Installed in our minds and attempting
To hold us back
We've got to take it back
'Cause holes in our spirits causin' tears and fears
One-sided stories for years and years and years
I'm inferior? Who's inferior?
Yea, we needa check the interior
Of the system who cares about only one culture
And that is why
We gotta take the power back

Chorus

The teacher stands in front of the class
But the lesson plan he can't recall
The student's eyes don't percieve the lies
Bouncing of every fucking wall
His composure is well kept
I guess he fears playing the fool
The complacent students sit and listen to the
Bull shit that he learned in school

Europe ain't my rope to swing on
Can't learn a thing from it
Yet we hang from it
Gotta get it, gotta get it together then
Like the mother fuckin weathermen
To expose and close the doors on those who try
To strangle and mangle the truth
'Cause the circle of hatred continues unless we react
We gotta take the power back

Chorus
No more lies

30. As a 10 Percenter
I thank you for reminding me of that phrase today. I can remember how proud and defiant we were after September 11th when America was scared witless, us too, yet even then we would not drink the Kool Aid. I remember the deep deep deep despair after the 2002 election. It would have been a simple thing to give up then but despite our anger and sorrow, no one did. No one. And through the primaries which to the outside world must have been boring as all get out, at least that's what they said, but in HERE! Well, in here it was a true donnybrook in fine Democratic tradition finally, finally coming together in our determination to stand behind Senator Kerry against the evil that had befallen this nation.

We have done so much. All of us. We have marched, we have phoned, we have written, we have knocked on doors, we have worked person to person, one at a time to convince the larger world and the smaller world of our own lives that there was a better way and that our lives and the lives of our descendants depended on us taking it.

We have held each other up when it looked as if we would be crushed. That perhaps even God was against us.

Tomorrow is our time. More than it is for Senators Kerry and Edwards, it is our time. It is the time that we once and for all rid the world of the shadow of George Bush. It is the time we once and for all take hold of the levers of power and make this government heed to the words of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. The time for us to go home after elections and rest secure in the knowledge that our candidate and our party will do the right things by us are long gone. Its going to be rough.

But we've already been through rough.

Congrats to all Democrats here on DU and everywhere else. The time we have waited four long years for is upon us. Work the polls, get folks to polls, call folks and make sure they go. Be real jerks about it and make them go, I mean it.

And tomorrow night, party, thank whatever higher power you like and rejoice like its a new day.

Because it will be. Because we made it so.

Courage and Vigilance.

Lets kick some Bush ass!!!!
