A 70yr old Bushie just flipped the bird at my 13yr old daughter!
I live in Polk County, and we're very RED here. Bush won this county in 2000, and just paid us a visit last weekend. There are Bush signs galore and it's sickening, but in the last week a LOT of Kerry signs have cropped up. One home in particular has plastered their gates and posts with K/E stuff. Today I was taking my daughter to a friends house to trick-or-treat and as we drove by that home, my daughter screamed, "STOP THE CAR!" I pulled over and she pointed to the signs. Some jackass had spraypainted "W" over every one of their signs. My daughter ordered me to pop the trunk and she proceeded to get out the last of my K/E signs (I have to keep them in the trunk because so many people stop me and ask for bumper stickers, etc...) She grabbed the sign and the rest of my bumper stickers and I took her cue and went to the front door to offer them to the homeowners. As I made my way to the door and waited for someone to answer, my daughter boldly stood along the side of the road, holding the K/E sign as high and proud as she could.

The folks weren't home so I went back to my kiddo and she was furious. She said, "Mom, not only did some redneck with a gunrack on his truck flip me off, but some gray-haired lady flipped me off too, and I swear she tried to run over me!" With that she planted the sign firmly in the ground, covered the rest of the defaced signs with K/E stickers and said, "They can destroy these signs, but they can't destroy this election."

In her honor, I made a new sign for my yard. It says, simply:

"You can steal my sign, but you can't take my vote. Kerry/Edwards 2004."

What kind of monkey-farker flips off a kid?

2. "Monkey-Farker" = Toby KKKeith Crowd
I see why we Democrats should be pro-gun. We will have to defend ourselves against Right Wingers who intimidate our little kids with their gunracks.

:scared:

:grr:

18. Toby Keith lives about 2 miles from my house.
He has a huge mansion in Norman, OK. He's always giving his political opinions on our local radio stations. (Piping in about various state questions, etc.)

Around here, the biggest endorsements a candidate can pick up are from him and Barry Switzer.

He is truly a fucking idiot.

31. Most of my life I have disliked country music
but a couple of years ago, I developed a taste for blue grass. After what the redneck crowd tried to do to the Dixie Chicks, I won't even pause on one of the country music stations on my satellite TV system. Country music can die with its secret for my money. None of my money or time goes to support it.

10. I am so very proud of her
She takes a LOT of flack at school for wearing her K/E pin. One of her friends told her the other day that she would not talk to her until she took it off. My daughter responded, "Please. You couldn't shut up for five minutes, let alone eight years. You sound like Bush - all hat and no cattle. Try making promises you CAN keep."

This is also the same girl who argued the legality of abortion by saying that sperm is also a living thing, and if abortion becomes illegal, every boy in her class should be arrested for masturbating.

I love that kid!

19. She's a good kid - she even stood up for a Bushie yesterday
My son is twelve and he is getting mad about people stealing our K/E sign. He decided it's the kid that lives down the road, so he pulled their Bush sign out of their yard and brought it home. My daughter marched him out the front door and down the street and made him replant the sign. She said, "You stand up for Kerry by being better than the Bushies, not by stooping to their level."

14. I only wish she could vote NOW
She's so plugged in to the process. She asked me to let her take the day off to work the polls on Tuesday. I told her I didn't think they would allow a minor to do that and she said, "Fine then. I'll stand outside all day holding up a sign. I don't care what they let me do, I'm doing something!"

Don't you wish all adults were this fired up? I know we are, but man she keeps me and the hubby motivated!

15. You know alot of right wing assholes are
"worried" about violence after the election or so they say. But now that the tide is turning our way, I am starting to worry as well. They have the guns and the "smoke em out" mind sets. People need to be vigilent. I won't even put stickers on my car as I live in a Red State. Be safe out there.

22. In Polk county.....................
that could be just about anybody. You're correct, Polk is pretty bad. I used to live in Highlands (just south of Polk) and that was redneck heaven too. It's pretty bad when people take this kind of action to make a stupid point. Demonstrating that sort of behavior around a child is ugly, VERY ugly. They have no sense of decency (although they claim to have a hotline to God) and their souls are as bitter as their actions. Give you girl a hug, tell her you love her and tell her that there are just some very bad people in the world and she shouldn't take it personally.

...but keep her safe.

I was at a visibility rally yesterday and just before I got there, a driver apparently made like he was going to swerve into the crowd.

Someone should have gotten his license plate number and turned his sick ass in.

I don't trust these people, win or lose. I don't trust them AT ALL. Brownshirts never learn.

Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 04:27 PM by nownow
There was a guy standing on a corner last night, at a busy intersection, with his five-ish year old daughter holding Naked Emperor signs. We did flash them a 'thumbs-down' on the way past, but I'd never do more than that anyway -- especially with a kid standing there! Sheesh.

I reserve my FY finger for people who cut me off in traffic who have really obnoxious bumper stickers like 'Kerry Sucks' and anything making determinations about all people to the left of Barry Goldwater. What a class act, flipping off a young teenager standing alone beside the road. A real standard-bearer for the GOP.

First, your daughter is a super trooper and the hope for our future.

Second, forgive the rednecks, for their world is crashing all around them. And on Tuesday night, the little bubble they live in will pop, and the sound of it will be heard round the world.
