Kerry and Majette in Georgia?
An AJC/WSB-TV poll released Friday showed Bush in command of 52 percent of Georgia's vote and Republican Johnny Isakson still leading Democrat Denise Majette in the Senate race. But Bush took 55 percent of the vote in 2000, and Isakson polled under 50 percent.

Wow, this would be big! Georgians, what are you seeing?

1. Majette may do well in the larger urban areas
--Atlanta, Savannah, maybe even Macon, Augusta, and Columbus--but Isakson will win most of the vote in the suburbs and in the countless little redneck hamlets throughout the state. Even if Kerry were to take Georgia (which is highly unlikely), Majette is a real long shot, sorry to say.

I'd love for events to prove me wrong.

2. Closer than expected
Republican mom voting Kerry after Bush last election.
Dad still undecided, leaning Kerry.

A good number of Kerry supporters here in a deeply pro-gun, pro-life territory. GA will be closer than people believe.

3. The only reason the repukes did well
last time is the that the democrat governor Barnes did away with tenure for the teachers and they turned him out. It could be interesting but it is suppoesed to rain and they don't haqve enough voting machines in a lot of counties.

6. Family and friends in Georgia telling me the same
Even the exburbs had heavy voter turnout in early voting according to friends - turnout that isn't necessarily republican. Lots of "northern transplants" according to my sister-in-law in an exburb while talking in the early voting line.

4. I REALLY want Majette to win...
but it's a long shot. Zell Miller screwed us.

She'll win the Southwestern part of the state...it's rural farmers, Carter lives here, and his son is campaigning for Majette. But that might not be enough if she can't win some of the other rural areas...

7. How about metro Atlanta?
She's got the heavily DEM areas?

8. She'll take Atlanta, but I don't know if the urban areas are enough
for a statewide win. I'm one of the Yankee transplants in N. Ga. I voted Kerry, Majette, and I know all us Deaniaks are doing the same. I just can't tell if there are enough of us. Ga. is pretty red!

9. Crossing fingers
Hope, hope, hope, hope

That would be the surprise of the day on Tuesday. I won't give up until the last vote is counted.

I saw an electoral map the other day (forgot where) that showed Majette did well in the middle Georgia counties (a very narrow red area, but across the state) during the primary, so maybe she's got a plan to bring in some areas other than the metro sections.

Fingers crossed. Go Georgia! GOTV.
